KM 0.9b bugs

Andrew,

An old bug is the rebar problem in WIN98se. Unless you disable it, you lose the ability to use hotkeys in the menus, such as <alt> <help> etc.

ndebord,

Yup, unfortunately, that was is still present. I'm not sure if we'll get anywhere with that one before 0.9 is released but I'll check into it again.

Andrew,

I'm not convinced I'm the right guy to post bug info on the developer's list as I'm not as tech savy as some here. If I do find anything, I'll post it here first.

Just moved to K-Meleon 0.9b2 in Win98se.

located in C:\Program Files\K-Meleon

In the privacy bar, clicking on URL-bar does not clear anything either as the browser is running or after closing it down.

One setting I've changed is the ReBar setting. I have disabled it to enable <alt> <keys) in the Main Menu.

Beta 2 won't allow me to read continued lines on the NY Times Sports Page. Works fine in 1.73.

In the privacy bar, clicking on URL-bar does not clear anything either as the browser is running or after closing it down.

Yeah, that's a product of the privacy plugin. It doesn't clear urls for the current window but after clicking clear URL History, new layers/windows are cleared of address list but in order for them not to reappear at restart you need to check the box in the privacy settings to clear on startup or shutdown.

Ah, I see the setting now in Tools/Advanced Preferences. I have been doing it the old-fashioned way, editing the config files by hand. I'll have to try this one now.

Tks,

Actually, Tools-Privacy-Settings or right-click the go button.

I don't know if it is a 0.9b bug, but I noticed some rubbish in the history displayed under Groups.

Here is an example:

I am not sure about this one, but isn't it right that preferences in user.js are copied to prefs.js first time they are added and KM is starting up/ closing down after the addition?

I have added some prefs, did the same last week and was wondering why these settings were not copied in/ used.
I have the feeling that 0.9b is not looking into user.js or is not copying them into prefs.js.

My configuration is standard at this moment, even using the phoenix-skin.

Another point; when on a page and with the mouse just on a link (what happens often on forums) the right-mouse-click menu doesn't show the standard page-options like reload, this because you have the mouse pointed on a link.
I think this should be changed in the menus-file.

That's not possible.. I keep many settings in user.js so that migrating to another version will be snappy (just like what Eyes-Only did with his Thunderbird settings), and I see nothing going wrong in this version.

If I read jsnj's mind correctly winking smiley , this is a feature, not a bug, to keep the rclick menu clean.

Ok, then not. But here on my system I have to copy them in prefs.js because they are not copied over.

And about the other point, I just gave my opinion.

But, as I have said before, forget my comments and let them go their way ;-)

It's not History. It's the layers list so the user can see what layers they'd be saving into a group. But I get that weird display too, and I believe it was in 0.8.2 as well.

If I read jsnj's mind correctly winking smiley , this is a feature, not a bug, to keep the rclick menu clean.

Actually, not alot went through my mind :-). I just modeled it after Mozilla, FF, & IE. They don't have Reload options in their link context menus either. Neither did 0.8.2 or the W build if I remember correctly when I tried it out awhile back.

That's right, the older versions do not have this reload either.
I was thinking about adding it because I missed it a few times when pointing a link on forums.
You probably know that some forums are just a list of links. A reload with right-mouse-menu is difficult then when you have to move in between two links.
But ofcourse, I know, I can move the mouse to the right or just use the menus/ toolbars.
That's why I said forget it. I think for a lot of the members it is not even a little important and for me it is easy to add it when the final is ready.
But then for my own use.

Other point may be.
I noticed that after half an hour browsing I am using 212mB of memory.
That's new to me with KM....
I know that older FF-releases had a mem-leak with the same behaviour.
It is just that I visited heavy pages or is it really a leak?

About my user.js; I have deleted my profile to see if I am right and added some settings to my user.js to have some settings done the first time KM is starting up.
This is my user.js file, but nothing is added to prefs.js and KM is starting-up as default. Ofcourse I am talking about user.js in the default/profile directory and all profiles are deleted before startup:

Sorry, already found it.
Sometimes I am to enthousiastic I think, and forget to look carefully.
I was forgotten the user_pref in the speedsettings.
Sorry again.....

So, this problem is solved for me, and indeed, user.js is copied in in prefs.js.

I feel a little stupid now.....

When visiting a https website, the icon in the right corner is not replaced completely the first time.
The certificates are okay, the connection is safe but the icon itself is only half replaced by the -closed lock- icon. When switching to another layer and switching back to the one with the https connection, the icon is replaced correctly.

Here is an example: http://hch.uwnet.nl/k-meleon/tmp/6.jpg

Can anyone confirm the same behaviour and how can it be solved?

Another one, which must be polished a little more I think.
When using the continuous reload (great function!!!) sometimes I get an error when loading for example the k-meleonwebsite (time-out etc...). This in combination with the continuous reload is not handeled correctly I think.
The error is showing up and the counter is still counting. When waiting for example one hour before you confirm the errormessage, the counter is changed from the old setting (I am using 30 seconds oft for some websites) to the old minus one hour = about one hour.
I think it would be better to have no errormessages or a separate countingprocess, not waiting for confirmation of the errormessage.
But as I said, the function is great!

https://www.abnamro.nl/toegang/aanloggen works and looks just fine without layers here.
I assume that you clicked on that weird icon and get OK.
But to be on the safe side, check with netstat, port monitor or wherever you have, what is going on on port 443.
I cant say much about the rest, couse my user.js is 0, pref.js is tenth the size of yours, no plugins and so on.
My solution would be abandon layers all together and use CTRL+n instead. The result is the same and you have more screen space.

Hi Marc,

You are probably right, but I think it has to work, that's why I reported the bug.
Most of the settings in my user.js are settings made in the menus of 0.9beta. And you are right it is a long list, but look in your prefs.js and you will see the most are also there in your file ;-)) I just copied them over to have a good start with a new profile. The others are the speedsettings.

The link works without any problem, the only problem is the lock-icon in the right-corner. It should be a closed lock (and it is), but the old icon (open lock) is only half REPLACED by the other icon.

Greetings!

I havent seen this being discussed, but I could have just missed it. In the 0.9 beta 2, there seems to be some undesirable (for myself) interaction with TweakUI's Xmouse setting.

I have winXP and I use this setting to set focus to the window under the mouse, but I have auto-raise *disabled*.

In the last beta that I installed, when ever I have more than one KM window open, in addition to setting the focus, it also auto-raises the window, inspite of auto-raise not being set. I find this very distracting.

This behavior does not happen unless Xmouse is set. It also did not happen on one of the early 0.9 betas either.

Anyone else see this?

Regards,
-C-

This is the securitybug mentioned on several security-sites and solved in the latest Mozilla's but still in KM 0.9b2 as showed wit the screenshot on the following link:
http://hch.uwnet.nl/k-meleon/tmp/km_bug_01.jpg

This was during normal browsing, so not a setup, and for me a reason to think very seriously about switching browsers....
I hope really that the patches for these bugs will be used for the official build.

May be, for the people who does not know the website showed on the screenshot:
In fact I was visiting two websites: http://www.marktplaats.nl and http://www.gps.nl
After visiting some more websites I switched back to the layer with http://www.marktplaats.nl and saw that the http://www.gps.nl was copied into the layer of marktplaats. This is a known Moz-securitybug.

Umm... Just making sure. My problem w/ TweakUI and KM does not mess up layers as Fast Sjonny reports - could be a different one. Mine is purely a auto-raise problem between two KM windows, not layers.
