K-Meleon-NX-1814 (June 16th,2007)

Submitted by Fred

Download here, from Rapidshare (.zip file) or here, from Rapidshare (tarball file)

This is a simplified version of K-Meleon 1.x , usable in Linux together with wine , or also in Windows, updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.4 using Gecko/20070511, from Seamonkey 1.1.2. Look and feel are similar to the earlier 0.9 versions. The NX No-chrome concept is used here. Thanks to Hao Jiang and Dorian. Java is now enabled thanks to Guenter. The browser is very fast, because Xul is not used. Note : Flashblock, Aggreg8 and other extensions are not included in this no-chrome version. No autocomplete as it causes problems in Linux. Ad-blocking by userContent.css and hostperm.1 . Many useful search engines have been added. The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder. If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory because of property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini inside the K-Meleon main folder to for example profile.ini-renamed before the first start.

-- Note : This version works only if you have the files mfc71.dll, msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder. If you need them, they are still available under the name dll-installer on the KM 8.2+ website at :

http://www.lontronics.nl/index.php?m=0006

This will install the files on your system. If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.

-- History must be deleted manually.

-- A javascript button allows enabling and disabling javascript. Reload the page after using it.

-- When used in Linux with Wine:

It's preferable to use "windows only" mode without layers for better stability. It is not advisable to use groups of more than 3 or 4 websites, better use no groups at all to avoid browser failures. A minor flaw, that has not been fixed yet, is that the URL bar sometimes won't change to show the actual URL after clicking links. If fonts should not work in wine, copy fonts from your windows installation to the " .wine " configurations folder, to the subfolder "fonts" and restart the browser. Take care that you have the needed permissions to write and execute. If necessary, let the browser create the profiles folder inside the .wine configuration folder by renaming profile.ini in the K-Meleon folder as described. Certain instabilities should be tolerated when K-Meleon is used in Linux.

Submitted by Enaitz Jar

Available at Enaitz Jar's web page.

Since K-Meleon v1'1 is officially available in spanish, this is no more a spanish translation patch but a generic modifications patch. The patch contains the following modifications over the official v1'1:

-- By the file Prefs.js (in Defaults\Profile):

  1. Opening maximized.
  2. IE Favorites plugin enabled.
  3. Ópera Hotlist and Netscape Bookmars plugins disabled.
  4. URL bar autosearch enabled.
  5. Home page set to El Mundo (a spanish newspaper).
  6. New windows open at Spanish Google .
  7. Klassic skin used by default (see skin modifications below).
  8. Pop ups about encrypted pages warnings disabled.
  9. Passwords storage disabled.
  10. Automatically close download windows when completed.
  11. Tool bar locked.
  12. Creation of a new group called "Programas" (programs), containing links to the official home pages of some software of general interest.

-- By the file Accel.cfg (in Defaults\Profile):

  1. Middle click opens links in background instead of in foreground. Just like IE 7 (but faster).

-- By the files contained at Skins\Klassic:

New look by using a modified version of the Klassic skin, including:

  1. The background of the tool bar is now in a lizard green colour.
  2. The main ico is the old one but with a spanish flag in the background.
  3. The old fashioned reptilian throbber has been restored.

K-Meleon 1.0.2-ax-1.8.1.2 (April 17th, 2007)

Submitted by Fred

Download here, from Rapidshare (.zip file) .

This is a 1.0.2 version, updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.2 using Gecko/20070222 with included Active X Support for Windows Media Player.

Active X Support is by default preset to be enabled only for comparatively safe Active x controls, as for example Windows Media Player. To enable it, go to Menu>Tools>Active X Support .

To allow less safe Active X controls, read the explanation in activex.js in the folder defaults/prefs, opening it with an editor. As this can be dangerous, I do not recommend it.

Javascript Button added, to easily enable/disable javascript.

Some functions in the Advanced Preferences Panel may not work. Many of them can be enabled from the menu bar.

Note : This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll and mfc71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder. If you need them, they are still available under the name dll-installer on the KM 8.2 website at : http://www.lontronics.nl/index.php?m=0006 This will install the files on your system.
