Apparently, the traversal vulnerability is still problematic in FF 2.0.0.12 unless you install noscript.

@prenaud - Edit-Preferences-Browsing-Tabbed Browsing - then click on Tab Bar tab then at the bottom under Mouse Control select the preference you wish to assign to double click, and, if you have the scroll wheel, assign it to close the tab on click. This is the fastest way to close any tab.

You can see the main difference in the "canvas" feature guenter is talking about on this page: http://developer.mozilla.org/samples/canvas-tutorial/3_1_canvas_drawimage.html If you go to this page using KM 1.1.3 the square to the left is blank. (Actually, you may not even see the square. On the other hand if you go there using KM 1.5a within the square to the left, you will see a grap

As caktus points out, there will always be holes. Some things, and it seems to be the gateway for most viruses, come through email, email attachments, or even the graphics in the email, not the browser. Sometimes it is not the browser but something in the interaction with a javascript that opens us up to problems - so, for example, even Firefox 2.0.0.9 has been "breached" in this way. C

@Kidman - since it doesn't have that behavior on my installation, perhaps you could look at how you have your tabs and windows appearing in relation to type urls. All of mine are set to create a new tab with none of them opening a new window.

@Kidman: Have you tried typing into the URL bar and then clicking on the little icon that looks like a circular world?

@ndeborg desaga2 has it spot on. Sorry for being late - was out of town. Just overwrite what is given for useragent1 with the following in about:config Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071008 Firefox/2.0.0.8

@kko - thanks for the insights about the FF user agent. Using what guenter said about resetting the strings, I changed it to those for FF 2.0.0.8 and for the first time was able to spoof MSNBC's video program and watch their wmf news stories.

@JamesD - I am totally pragmatic and cannot type anything. So, my macro skills are non-extant, which is probably what you actually want to do. Like guenter, I would type about:config in the toolbar, continue through the warning and look for the value browser.cache.disk.capacity and the set its value to what you want. (Some purists will tell you to set it in multiples of 1024, however)

@kko - thanks for listening. Appreciate it. @guenter - had I known how easy it was to change that string, we could have saved this whole long conversation. Anyways, took your advice - made the changes. Am now happy. Thanks.

@kko "My philosophy is to include the fewest number of features to garner the best results." You are now playing with semantics. The reason that User Agents are included is as a workaround. guenter claims that he has fixed his browser by putting in a new plug-in. I have the latest plug-in. Unfortunately, for both K-M and Seamonkey, it does not work. I am certain that with a lot of trial

@kko - The message that you get is what is called American double speak. It is saying that you have a wonderful machine that is fully loaded, but if you are getting this message it means you need to upgrade your browser to something more modern. You wouldn't get this message if you went to the page using Firefox as your user agent.

@JamesD - the Disney site requires the Flash Player. Adobe Flash Player has to be installed twice - one setup for IE and another for Mozilla browsers. If you have Flash Player installed, you should be able to to use IE and see the Disney page. If it is installed for Mozilla (and Opera), you cannot see it using the K-Meleon default User Agent, but change the User Agent to Firefox and it should bri

@kko - as I related to JamesD - simply change the user agent to FF or IE and you won't get that message; it will bring up the actual content on the site. Pretty dramatic difference wouldn't you say? My argumentation is rather basic. You include the widest number of user agents to garner the best results. The Netscape user agent works - Seamonkey doesn't. You can go to USA Today

@JamesD - yes that is the message you get if you use default. Try either IE or the Firefox user agent and you won't get a message; you will have the Flash content fire up immediately. @kko - Was not trying to offend anyone's choices, but it stands to reason that if you are going to have User Agents to access the widest number of webpages, you would use those that would give you dif

Whereas most software developers put out an alpha version, Dorian's effort is closer to a beta. Personally, I am not a big fan of tabs. Takes up too much viewing space, but I can see that tabs use less resources and they are the wave of the future I suppose. This is not a gripe but an observation. Clearly, K-Meleon is based on a branch of Seamonkey. For whatever reason, K-Meleon is seen a

It might be helpful to know which of the K-Meleon versions you are using. The 1.12 version sets proxies from Edit-Preferences-Proxy along with Tools-Proxy. The 1.5a version does not have the proxy interface under Edit-Preferences-Proxy and has to be set manually as you have done through about:config. You are correct that basically network.proxy.type should be set to one and should remain so. The

@gvgerman - type about:config into the url bar then continue on after recieving the warning. The entries are alphabetical. You will be looking for browser.cache.disk.capacity (or you can type this value into the filter bar) and it will scroll to it. When you locate it, double click on it and change the value to size you want.

@caktus - kko is using 7zip. You can download it here: http://www.7-zip.org/ After you have installed it, it will fold itself into Windows Explorer. When you right click on a 7zip file using Windows Explorer, you will see a new menu item (7-zip) and when highlighted will give you a variety of ways to extract the compressed file. What kko is advising is to copy the .7z file into the folder wher

My guess would be that k-meleonW9x works for Windows 95, 98 and ME as opposed to NT, 2K, XP and Vista.

To be on the safe side before your run the program, make sure that there is a file called profile.ini in the same directory where k-meleon.exe in your new installation. Hao is pretty thorough and it should be there. If not, add it with a text editor and put these values in it: path=Profiles isrelative=1

I believe the following would be those extensions that would be considered "additions": Orbit Downloader (nporbit.dll) MNG Plug-in 1.0.7 (npmngplg.dll) Morgan Multimedia JPEG2000 Netscape/Mozilla PlugIn (npjp2.dll) Some call them extensions; some call them plug-ins - basically, it is what you get when you type about:plugins in the url bar. I believe that extensions that would be co

Thank you foobarly; you are being extraordinarily patient in answering my questions. Both Process Explorer and Taskmanager are tools. For example, if you have taskmanager up and minimize K-M, the memory usage should drop radically. As you let K-M just sit there with no activity, the memory usage should then build to anywhere from a quarter to half of what it displayed during full usage. With P

There is no getting around it, K-M in your illustration is using a lot of memory. I believe its basic footprint should be around 73,000 to 76,000 and would go up with the amount of layers and amount of java and html code per webpage (according to precess explorer). Normally, however, as you shut down layers that memory is returned. With none or one opened, it should be basically no larger than wh

Generally, when you minimize K-Meleon, it will return the memory or cache it. There is a Boolean value that you can add to about:config and set it to true: config.trim_on_minimize This works with most Mozilla browsers. Don't know if you have done this before. Type about:config in the URL bar. You will receive a warning about changing anything. Just continue. A huge list of variables will

I believe that the read ahead function of video players (which handle the images) is fed into a .tmp file located in any number of temp location folders in Windows. The size might depend upon how much volatile memory is available given all of the processes running in Windows. What subdirectory are you looking in to get your values? On mine the cache is found in \Applications and Settings\(nameo

For myself, I use K-Meleon for precisely the reasons you like it. It is efficient. However, you might consult this page: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,72013 in case you want to modify K-Meleon to do some extra things that you might require in the future. As for FireFox - there is a value that can be put in about:config that won't fix the memory leaks but might bring memory unde

Like kko, I went there and found that my SeaMonkey and Firefox also could not bring up the pictures though IE could. Some websites use only the implementation provided for IE which takes shortcuts with html code and javascript.
