This is what you get when your browser must compete with ff on a selection screen. Next they will ask for money to sell it back to kmeleon. That's how internet commerce works

Okay, I tried to install Kex 4.5.2, the one you suggested. I set it to default to not using KernelX on any programs. It installed without error, but now I get an error from my KM1.5.4 whenever I try to use SSL, it says the profile folder may be readonly and it can't start SSL security components. I don't see anything set to readonly in there, although kernel ex has added the compatibili

Hmm this is very interesting. If I remember anything I did tonight 2moro, I will try to load up this new KM on my 98SE. I seem to remember having some problems with Kex 4rc2 on my machine. Will let you know. cheers.

okay. did some research. i was somewhat mistaken, i used blur in an application where i used links, but styled to appear as normal text, to control focus in the page text. this does work. but the focus/blur only applies to html objects like buttons, text boxes and such. it has nothing to do with "static text" that appears on the page. the handling of which is browser dependent. mozil

Not knowing anything about the history of it, I would guess the purpose is to sell it back to the developers or intercept traffic to be paid for displaying ads. Or... they meant to make it a mirror site long ago and forgot about it, perhaps they were interested in taking over development long ago. If you want, I will call the number and ask them.

i wouldn't be that sure lol - but I will work on it. I used to be js programmer, I know blur worked in KM around v1.1, but I'm not so sure about the variable clearing.

and you used the blur command in js, it "blurred" the "focus" - but the km variable stayed exactly the same, right?

@siria If you mean that the variable is holding a value from an old tab or window, that sounds like an oversight ( meaning bug) on Kmeleon's part. The variable should only reference items in the current tab or window and should be blank when the tab or window is first opened. Maybe it's possible to capture the tab or window open event in js and reset the variable as a workaround? Mayb

Out of curiousity, I tried the same thing with adobe reader, different file though. I didn't see any memory hogging issues. Probably why Fxt 2.3 isn't so stable...

it's not so much a processor load issue as you have no control over the delay a server takes to serve whatever data is on it. if you ping your typical hosts, you can get an idea of the network delay. it's usually less than 100ms for close sites, more like 300ms for international access. you then add the random delay it takes for the server computers to put your data out in random order.

I think this is the last version working on W98. It is really quick to open.

A report on plugin-less Foxit reader: well after using it for a few weeks now, it tends to have errors and ask to be terminated. not really crashes, but not stable. if you want to see something interesting, start with a vector ( postscript not bitmap) pdf file, one that can be zoomed without pixelating. bring up a memory usage tool. now zoom in on the file. move it around. watch those mega

wow siria !! you really cranking them out !! I missed this one... imo, should always change this if changing UA. and the problem isn't so much security or malicious denial of server ( haha) attacks, it's unintentional sloppy programming where websites use this info to decide what type of js or page to serve. When they see "KMeleon", they have no response coded for it so

as mentioned in another thread, I also got this toolbar problem with new release only. I posted to ABP, and Wladimir says he can not reproduce it under fresh profile. well, I fresh installed a KM 1.5.4 and added the latest ABP release, and it still kills the toolbar. no changes at all. default everything. I told Wladimir, waiting to see if he can confirm it.

what other performance can one look for besides speed? ? ? i think you may misunderstand what this setting does. a 1 second paint delay means the browser waits 1 second for information to come in from servers before it even tries to compose the page layout. You would have a rather unresponsive browser there, and unless you have horrible connection, you can do much better than this. setting

Well, isolation is almost always good. Hardware enforced isolation is even better. but the real problem - Flash must go !!! what other plugin can crash like flash? there are no competitors, flash = trash.

It works, I set mine to 100msec. You want a minimum of reflows but no extra delays, so it depends on your connection latency.

I have installed the rerelease and I've got problems with the ABP toolband, can't move it. Can be hidden though, wait scratch that, can't hide it either... I informed Wladimir. I am thinking of writing a "translator" to convert ABP block lists ( subscriptions like EasyList ) from 1.2 to 1.02 format. Some things will have to be lost, but at least we will have something

Same benefit as using tabbed browser, no OS window overhead. But it is true that at least on my system, Foxit 2.3 is so fast that I don't much mind opening the new window. It certainly takes way less time than even stripped down Adobe to open. Some people don't care how many windows they have open, I work with a guy who regularly has over 100 active windows on his Linux multicore des

Well I have been using foxit 2.3 for several days now and have not noticed any problems. It's ugly as sin, but all pdf readers so far are ugly! Opens quick, displays good ( with gdiplus atleast ). But I can't find a npPlugin that works for it. I think the version on the Foxit site might be for Foxit Reader 3. When I install it, it never displays anything, but it sure orphans system r

Thanks for posting these css's. It's amazing how simple code can improve the experience of a website. or kill it.

yeah, it doesn't even embed in IE. I was just confused because the blank page that the sound loads over says: "Player will appear here". But it does surprise me that apparently no browser can natively play a .wav file. I set the mime type editor to bring up the super compact version of mplayer2, and I'm happy with that. I was just hoping there would be some command line swi

Surprisingly, I am mentioned by full name (but incorrectly !) in that review. I would prefer, for those who know me, to not use my name particularly in a searchable context. Not a real big deal, but now you all know, that's what handles are for. Thanks.

my experience with the old Flash 10 is identical to siria's. I can install it but it doesn't render anything. Some think the problem is video driver / hardware related rather than W98. I will give the Fxit 2.3 a try. I think that's the same version that didnt' work before. It was fast and compact, ran fine some of the time and huge crashes every once in a while. I cant;

@4td8s I haven't tried Foxit for a few years now, but I think that the version 1 almost worked, especially without gdiplus.dll. Version 2 was a total disaster. They were quick and simple though...if I remember correctly, from msfn discussions, like Flash 10 they work on some W98, and don't work on others. If you think there is a stable foxit now, I'd try it again...I use 98SE

Well, even after finding and installing the activeX plugin. the wmp plugins aren't doing anything. i am using wmp 9. and the hexed plugins are 9xA and 9xB versions.

ditto. why is this plugin (ax) not included on the plugins page? nevermind, i found it: here also it seems the browser can play midi files like the one on the site guenter refers to, it seems very odd that mozilla can't play a wav file natively, i mean, does one need a plugin to view jpg? it's kind of crazy, is this because .wav is a MS format? 8^(

I installed disrupted's km-wmp plugins, they appear on the about:plugins. but I can't get them to work either, the sound file just downloads into the window! furthermore, if I go to Preferences:file Handling the whole list is now blank ! Where does one get this QT plugin? I missed it on plugins page, it's not part of a 200MB download from Apple that won't run on W98 is it??

I remove almost all of the Reader plugins to not only get rid of unneeded functionality but also way speed up the load time. I'm using W98 so I get that speedup when I display pdf, not at load time. Foxit doesnt' work consistently in 98.
