Quotendebord QuoteMXB F-prot 3.16f. I almost deleted it myself after it started not running due to expiry date. mxb, Hmmm... and you can still get virus definition files? FYI, this is my old FP command line. c:\fprot\f-prot c:\*.* /AI /nofloppy /dumb /list /archive /packed /report=fp.log list fp.log No, the latest def files were from Feb. 1, 2008.

Quotendebord MXB, What? You got F-Prot to work again? How? <g> FP.BAT DATE 2-2-2008 C:\DOS\F-PROT\F-PROT %1 DATE <VBG> Provided useful info on the old worm I caught, although I manually found all the infected and generated files without it. (I hope)

I just got my first virus yesterday after a 29 year clean record (hmmm are there any 1982 Atari 800 viruses? . I too live a "high risk" life. Common sense helps a lot of course. I'm not actually sure where it got in. I installed mudlet on both Win computers but only one got infected. The other one got infected via the network but was 1 cycle behind so I think the software install w

I block everything by default (and as I recently learned even that isn't good enough) and want to allow for example google.ca which allows groups.google.ca and images.google.ca Or do they need to all be entered?

Any docs for this? Can you allow sites xxxxx.yyy and it allows zzz.xxxxx.yyy with zzz varying? (Sorry forgot the proper terminology - brain is full)

Quotesnuz2 @MXB: another must for a W98 computer is Maximus Decims' native USB modification which gets rid of the need to install moronic files just to use Flash drives, and since so many devices like digital cameras and MP3 players, look just like a flash drive, they all work out of the box as well. Just make sure you really delete all the old driver software /before/ installing NUSB.

Quotesnuz2 well, all i have is 800Mhz 256MB RAM and W98SE, flash10 is bigger, but faster than flash 9 in my experience. but the real problem is the vintage of the video card. even mine is a complete joke compared to newer ones, but a surplus premium video card is easy to find and fixes that problem... Ah it's the hardware accel I read about right? Well that's no big deal With an old

QuoteMXB Any way to get a fully functional NS for KM 1.5? Hmmm I just installed Policy Manager and it works better than expected so I guess it's OK. No docs but I guessed and right clicking on a page lets you access PM and it auto copy pastes the current URL in for you. Nice. Also nice was how it copied the NoScript settings (the few sites that were settable using the semi functional NS!).

YOu can also run FF 4.0 under kernelX with no problems. it's very fast. also the latest Flash or at least 10.2 which is very recent works well under kernelX. your ancient video hardware will not do it justice though I'm afraid. Yes it had occurred to me that even if the software might ru

The "new" title made me curious so I timed http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1-606153.html using Opera 10.54, K-M 1.5 and FireFox 1.5 on it. Caches clear on exit is default so that's not a factor. 3. Opera 13.69s 2. K-M 11.61 s 1. FireFox 9.07s Surprised? I was. Disclaimer: as with any such test I probably overlooked something that may have had a major effect. B

I only needed Java for 1 site recently: Formula One Live Timing. It used to work with FireFox 1.5 (Opera's a mess - believe it or not Opera 10.5 which works with Win98 also doesn't let you use an external Java because it has one built in I think - details I kinda forget now) but stopped sometime last year. Now I'm tempted to try it with K-M.

Quotek-meleon-user Hi, I've downloaded and installed K-meleon 1.5.4, and downloaded and unzipped Adblock Plus 1.02 (version that should work with K-meleon 1.5 as stated on Adblock hompage)into the K-meleon folder..... NOTHING HAPPENED! Absolutely nothing... And... I've downloaded and installed K-meleon 1.6.0, and downloaded and unzipped Adblock Plus (1.3.8 - the official version o

> It is good that K-Meleon 1.5.4 is fatter than Firefox 1.5. Well you know fat is slang for good from the 80's. :-) > Opera is AFAIK packed with an Exe packer. You could do the same for Firefox... IE 6 has installed many outer components in other directories. Get its installer and look at its size. Opera's exe is 800K vs KM's 500. Yeah, IE has its tentacles

Quotesnuz2 kernelX? nothing to it, small download, works great. only suggestion: only enable for programs that need it, subtle side effects occur when programs that can already run on 98 think they are on XP. post any questions here, we will try to help i highly recommend the version KM 1.6 S 2014 over the beta version. I have found it faster and more stable too. Thanks, I did some sea

QuoteFred Don't forget that K-Meleon 1.5 is a much newer browser than Firefox 1.5 or Internet Explorer 6, and it has much fewer safety problems. Firefox 1.5 is from 2005, and it can be compared to the mentioned K-Meleon-0.8.2+-Wechselbalg, which is dating from 2004. This version was, compared to FF 1.5, about 30% smaller. You could also consider my chromeless variation K-Meleon-NX1

Yes, it's overweight. I just checked the directory size of Opera 10, FireFox 1.5, IE 6 and K-M 1.5 and K-M was the fattest! All 4 have their caches cleared BTW. Opera I did delete the lexicon and indexer which will be recreated so I expect it will normally the biggest. But K-M is fatter than FF 1.5.

Quotesiria The alternative files that I want to keep a while (old versions, or original versions, macro experiments etc.) I just copy and rename, so that the ending is disabled. E.g. "toolbars.cfg" renamed to "toolbars_cfg_110525" or such. This way KM doesn't read them at startup and they can stay inside the same folder, side by side with the "active" files

QuoteYogi QuoteMXB Thought it didn't work at first but it appears one must exit and reload K-M before any change takes effect. I'll try and remember that in future. Toggling Proxy on/off doesn't need to exit and reload K-M. Changes take effect as soon as you hit the toggling button. At least that's how it works with 1.5.4 here. I can't tell for 1.6 beta which I didn

Quotendebord QuoteMXB Excellent. I just customized the privacy bar to what I use. A tad annoying is that you have to edit the file and add/remove the comment symbol. Lotsa typing for a lazy guy like me. MXB, Yup, lots of typing... which is why I keep a few different versions around, zipped up... when I want to make a change that I already know about, I just unzip the right one. IF not, sigh

I'll try and remember that in future. I appreciate the option to add it to toolbar instead of privacy bar (as I recently hid it because of Noscript) and the wonderful installer. I've installed it and it seems to work but not all that well. As posted on anther thread you can't configure it because the OK dialog button is ignored. The whitelist can be added to via the menu from right clicking the NS icon. To delete (such as the ad sites Maone put in by default 8-| ) I had to edit the prefs.js file (oooh I ignored the warning not to!) but it worked. I imagine the
