Having sold shares steadily von Tetzchner has now less than 10 per cent limit, which meant that he theoretically could block the acquisition. According to Business Today, he has 5.18 percent of the shares in the company. There have been several takeover rumors in the past. von Tetzchner was one of the obstacles. Now the way is paved for a takeover.

@ margarita From the homepage of Maxthon: Maxthon 3 comes with a browser engine that draws web pages 200% faster than Google Chrome. I would take with a grain of salt such claims. - Maxthon uses the Trident and the WebKit engine. - None of the modern browsers can draw on an average web pages 200% faster than the competition. I would take with a grain of salt speed tests as well, for re

I'd like to hear from some of our regular contributors ( and others!) what you think is so special about Kmeleon that it deserves to continue. Why K-Meleon? Above all because it is user friendly. The browser you can trust and control. All settings at hand on one single bar without the need of any extension. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9779/37km.png Opera is the only viable alte

Speaking generally, I think using Policies may be the way to get KM-1.6 compatibility with such modern-scripted sites. Generally speaking it is misleading to claim that you can achieve compatibility by restricting code to run. Policy manager allows you to have more control over scripts and thus can enhance security and privacy but it can't improve compatibility. That's what rendering engines a

Nice to see that I'm not the only one on this subject :) How about I beat the drum for your position on this? <VBG> It might be worth a try IMO  After all Dorian and the handful main contributors will have to decide what's best for K-Meleon and its small user base.

The site works with K-Meleon 1.7.0 alfa2 and Fred's unofficial KM-16-F3624 as well. My hint concerns only K-Meleon 1.5.4 and 1.6.0 beta2 which IMO are the most used. I'm using Fred's latest build for now. So far it makes little sense wasting the limited time and resources on finalizing v1.6.0 because it would be already obsolete at the time it would become final. This is just a personal opini

I run it with a small disk cache, pointed to a ram drive. Runs faster. What software are you using? I've tested just a few, maybe I missed the one I would like best. Features I would like: Freeware (mandatory) Automatic mounting of the ram drive at windows start (mandatory) Indexing disabled (would be nice) Compression (would be nice)

@ Who cares? Mi

Firefox 9.0 and Firefox 10.0 is much, much faster than outdated Firefox 3.6 and Kmeleon. Have you already tested Firefox 10? At least I've tested Firefox 8.0 against K-Meleon 1.6b2. Nine times out of ten I have JavaScript disabled. It is the default setting in my browser. So I tested with scripting disabled. On my broadband connection I can hardly notice any speed difference. I had the (subjec

Firefox 3.6 refuses to die. ah yes! :D I don't use Fx, K-Meleon being my work horse and Opera my secondary browser. Nonetheless I download sometimes releases of Fx (8.0/3.6.24) in order to test. It seems that 3.6 is maintained only for security fixes. Rendering engines aren't the same. So some pages get rendered differently. Example, the red bar at the top.

It has a special feature called 'Opera Turbo'. It will compress pages and images, making them load faster. It still won't make it as fast as a broadband connection, but it's still faster than without using it. I can't see any difference on my broadband connection except low quality images because of the compression. Only useful on a dial-up with a slow connection.

I'm using 1.6.0 and have noticed this problem quite a few times. I don't know if it is just a problem for me or something. Take this web page: Long web page It got fixed in K-Meleon 1.7.0 alpha2. Alpha builds are not meant for a productive environment but rather for testing. However this alpha works fine for me. You might give it a try for testing.

The possible better speed seems for me mainly concerning faster javascript execution, caused by a faster Javascript engine. For me personally, this is not that important, as I turn off javascript most of times. I use it only sporadically if it is absolutely necessary. Ditto! The features that make K-Meleon more interesting for me than the other browsers is the possibility to adapt it to my

naturally they will sniff you and cripple you out but doesn't mean your browser is incapable of running their apps, a move like that means they are all in it together.. Fully agreed. A hypocritical statement of Google, period. Google also omits to mention Opera among modern browsers and they do it on purpose. They have often sent garbage code to the Opera UA-string in the past boycotting Ope
