Hi James, keep in mind that I'm not a programmer neither are my computing skills very bright. However killing/renaming wscript.exe should be safe. I also have a tool that needs the Script Host. I found an easy way to circumvent the registry setting to disable Script Host, advised by Microsoft. If I try to launch the .vbs the normal way I get the expected message that Script Host i

QuoteA new ransomware was discovered by security researchers @JAMESWT_MHT and @benkow_ called RAA that is made 100% from JavaScript. In the past we had seen a ransomware called Ransom32 that was created using NodeJS and packaged inside an executable. RAA is different, because it is is not delivered via an executable, but rather is a standard JS file. When a JavaScript file, such as RAA, execut

QuoteJohnHell Not now, I think... But if the image has already been cached (the first try), it will show the image properties without problems. If it is cached is similar as when the redirected image is reloaded, in the scenario I presented earlier. If you look at my pics you'll notice that they are showing different properties. First one, image size: 600x849 and the second one at full size

First pic was made after reaching the site and before clicking on "Download". If I click the dowload-button (and cookies are enabled) the picture pops up in a new window at its full size. The second pic was made from that window. Is something I misunderstood or got wrong?

Quotesiria In a civilised and at least partly just world they'd long since be sentenced as heavy criminals and gone into jail for the rest of their lives, grrr! Sorry but such "a civilised and at least partly just world" never existed in reality. It's rather a projection of us. QuoteJujuLand I hope too that a free alternative of flashplayer will be avalaible ... A+ A decent free alternative would be indeed fine. ATM flash has the better quality compared to HTML5. Drawback are the several security issues with flash. Most of those security issues could have been mitigated if webmasters wouldn't embed flash via scripting which is the attack vector number one. Ho

QuoteJohnHell Here you have an example to test with. https://sicarius8.deviantart.com/art/KW-614121943 This one works for me with K-Meleon 75.1 (Win7)

Quotesiria "nosniff" and "block" sound like could be culprits, ... Unlikely. Both old Opera Presto and Firefox ESR 45.2.0 have no problem with the image proprities. It's only K-Meleon 75.1. Didn't test with 76RC. I am on Win7.

Reviewing Microsoft's Automatic Insertion of Telemetry into C++ Binaries Visual Studio's C++ compiler is automatically adding function calls to Microsoft's telemetry services. It's about VS2015. VS2012 and VS2013 do not include this telemetry behavior.

QuoteJohnHell Under Windows 2000, I can't test further and I don't want to open the sooooooo slow Windows 7 virtual machine to confirm having other users with live OSs here. You made me feel guilty. I've downloaded FF v46.01 to test twatter. The above vid plays in FF v46.01. However, it plays only with cookies enabled! Really assholes.

QuoteJamesD Also I think that twitter may not provide a "src=" for mp4 to Gecko defined browsers. I do not have an account at twitter so I have not tested there. I didn't test myself since I'm using only the ESR version but AFAIK the latest Firefox can play twatter vids. If you are eager to test, you can use the above link provided by JohnHell.

Nope. However, I couldn't care less about twatter vids. Their message that my browser doesn't support video playback is a blatant lie. Assholes.

QuoteJohnHell Nop. Search for it and you'll find that MP4 files with Gecko, can only be played since Vista or 7 I knew that. It was a misunderstanding (semantics). My bad. OK, it can't play by its own but makes use of the splitter shipped with Vista and above. AFAIK you can install the Haali Media Splitter on XP to solve the problem. However I am on Win7 and even so can't wat

QuoteJohnHell Old gecko or whatever might be (my Firefox is just 31.x). Mine is ESR 38.8.0. Can't play vids on twatter either. QuoteJohnHell EDIT: I see what happens the MP4 patent problem. Gecko can't play MP4. I'm afraid I can't follow you here. Both FirefoxESR and K-meleon are playing fine all MP4 vids I have on my HD. I think that twatter has implemented their HTML5

@gordon451 Your 7z archive MD5 is fine. It's the same as mine. Program Files (x86) is protected area. If you want your K-Meleon folder there, IMO best practice is to use the installer. You can try to extract the archive to a non protected area as a test. It should work. Make sure to use a newer version of the 7z archiver. BTW, you can download the newest one which fixes a security hole

QuoteChanson Yu Firefox 38ESR update: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/38.8.0esr Firefox 38.8.0 is ok. The equivalent of it, FirefoxESR 45.1 not only has doubled its size but is totally shit! After a short test I wiped it from my HD. Let's hope that Dorian will have the nerve and the time to decrapify it.

Among the 3 browsers (Opera Presto, Firefox ESR and K-Meleon) which I am using for different tasks only one comes with a 32-bit and a 64-bit version. After testing both versions I opted for the 32-bit Opera Presto. Only scenario I can think of where the 64-bit version might have performed better are online games. Since I'm not a gamer I didn't test. The below test confirms at large wh

Rodocop, For me Opera 12.17 was slightly lighter on resources than K-Meleon even on W2k_x32 with a Pentium III and 1GB of RAM. However the difference of resourse consumtion between the 2 browsers in Win7x64 is minimal and definitive not noticeable on my system at least. Keep in mind that whereas development of Opera Presto ceased many years ago, Mozilla is stuffing more and more things in the

I'm afraid that reading about how it compares and looks from the 'outside' will hardly give you a clear picture because: 1. almost everybody has its own way to use the browser or even the internet

@Siria After thinking twice, I have to revise my first statement regarding "wouldn't make any sense". Even for already loaded elements through an iFrame (but made invisible through CSS) it would make sense to have a clickable link displayed. I always prefer blocking over hiding, even so I have a flat rate with no data volume restrictions and a fast connection. But that's on
