I'm glad I could bring it to your attention. :-) So, you added # to the beginning of the language lines in order to nullify them, clever! Taking a cue from that I deleted the language section entirely and can see that it works great, since the English words are obviously embedded in the getsize.exe and the language section of the INI is meant for easy translation to other languages. But if y

Siria, first of all: congratulations on your creation (monster), I can see that you have poured a lot of time and thought into it and that you must have learned a lot along the way. Secondly, I extracted the files to my K-Meleon folder and ran it without any further setup, everything I tried seemed to work well. Lastly, I must confess that I am not a target user for this kind of extension

GetSize, developed by Lexi, is available on the Network extensions page, with the description: retrieves additional information about a file including size and html headers in use. menu entry: link context > file information | image context > image information versions supported: 1.1.x - 1.5.x I like to use it for checking the size of large downloads but I also like to see the siz

Thanks. Why? I can't explain, but since it was Christian's thread I felt like I was intruding. However, although I wrote in English I carefully composed it so that a machine translation would work well. And to be clear, I only know Google-Deutsch, hehe.

It works! Thank you, everyone. Good work. "Simply copy that cacheFixer.js from the addon into the components folder (and as usual deleting xpti.dat and compreg.dat)." - siria "both compreg.dat and xpti.dat must be deleted to register the file" - disrupted Those files, in the components folder, need to be deleted so they can be automatically rebuilt the next time the b

Although if I tried I'm sure my accent would have you rotflol. I've certainly learned a lot today, along with Siria it seems. I read the Cache Fixer page (and looked into it's files) and also read the long and interesting bug 105843 page, which describes how this whole issue is intentional, and shows how it's been neglected by developers for many years. Essentially, the whole mozilla cache system is poorly designed and would need to be entirel

I was hopeful, but it did not work for me. I entered the key using the steps shown in the image below, I then restarted K-Meleon. I tested the function using two methods: I browsed a website that always crashes the browser, I also used a process killer. In both cases the cache would be deleted as soon as a new page was loaded (as usual), the previous session choice did not matter. Using default K

hehe, I was just trying to let little goofy lizard face speak for himself, but yeah, I like him. In fact, I just posted a link to 2000 different images of him in the thread referenced above.

Generally speaking, I like the Klassic animated throbber (the Alternative Throbber) but I think it needs more visual action, such as moving background clouds or a color cycling aura, because the delay between puffs of fire makes it too visually subtle. I extracted it's frames some weeks ago but I haven't done anything to change it yet, and I'm not sure if I will ever get around to

Good work! I saw no effect with the simple crash test but the bugzilla links did as desga2 described, unresponsive with 100% cpu usage. K-Meleon had to be killed but I saw no signs of a crash after letting it run a few minutes. Underwhelming. ndebord, I'm afraid I have no specific advice about Sandboxie settings but I recommend reading the documentation at the site as well as going sl

I think you're well covered Dave, hehe. Generally speaking, ActiveX and javascript have always given exploits the keys to the kingdom when little else has, so keeping them under control is often enough. Although earlier this month an EOT exploit against Internet Explorer was published, which didn't require ActiveX or JavaScript to trigger, which is about as severe as it gets. But no mat

Thanks ndebord. I will also note that one might be able to subscribe to some of those advisory lists, to receive an e-mail whenever K-Meleon is mentioned. Also, when composing the list I left two sites out, one wasn't working at the time and one had zero entries for K-Meleon. For side note siria, something more for your tag bag of tricks: opening and closing a tag (such as italic or bo

Nice, timely posting by Matt. Another perspective on the same exploit: vupen.com/english/advisories/2009/3299 I too have wondered about K-Meleon security matters. About all I know (I'm a newbie) is that apart from new official K-Meleon builds there is always the unofficial Gecko updater that apparently covers rendering engine exploits fixed by the Mozilla SeaMonkey folks (http://kmext.s

I'm reminded of something I've been meaning to mention, the official help page needs work. See: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/ProfileLocation Which is linked from the bottom of the Installation Guide page. It speaks of profile.ini as if it's the only key file and makes no mention of profiles.ini in the profiles folder. K-Meleon sat unused on my drive for months bec

Thank you again Siria. You convinced me to try the full Gecko update but it didn't cure the frozen screen problem nor did it cure the crashing problem I regularly experience on the cnet site. I'm willing to let the matter rest now.

Thanks Siria! Your test freezes my screen of course, which brings up an important point I failed to mention: these images ONLY cause problems when rendered as favicons by K-Meleon. I can view them directly or embedded in a web page in K-Meleon without any problems, and I can certainly view them with any other software. This underscores the fact that it's related to K-Meleon's rendering

Thank you for your replies, disrupted. The video settings you suggested did not seem to affect the situation. but I do find it interesting that Siria and I both have ATI cards (different cards with different drivers), and I wonder about Mr. Lapin now - it's unclear to me what brand of accelerated video he may be running. So far, Win98/SE (siria, lapin and me) and ATI video cards (siria and m

82. peace
Thank you kind folks. I've wrestled with this some more but it seems hopeless. Having my cache constantly wiped out is intolerable, so to protect my own peace I need to delete the browser and move on. Perhaps I'll try again one day when a new version comes along, or if I can't find happiness elsewhere (Opera is my only real prospect) I might try a previous version or something. So

: Update: There is a fix, please read http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?9,98959 I can visit http://news.com ( http://news.cnet.com ) and reliably crash K-Meleon (1.5.3) about once in every dozen page views anywhere on the site. I have found no common cause in the crashes but I suspect it could be ad related due the intermittant nature. It's always "K-MELEO

In my posting up above I detailed the effect, the cause and a workaround for K-Meleon's capacity to freeze the whole screen (in Windows 98) due to a graphics glitch related to the functioning of the IconCache.dat routines. I've updated the posting slightly for clarity and I've just filed an official bug report. And I might as well point out that it's not a crash, so it doesn&#

QuoteJust MeCome to think of it, not even sure what the following "buttons" do? Wrap Around, Match case, Highlight... Can someone enlighten, please? I read in the wiki that the wrap around is a blanket you can use if you get cold during a search, and the match case is to hold some matches in case you want to build a fire. This is not true of course. Wrap Around is a lot like word

Drifting off topic a bit and speaking generally... Some folks experience a screen lockup/freezing condition caused by certain websites, as described on page three of the sticky Crash Report thread in the bugs forum. I've created an UnFreeze workaround for that issue by making a simple macro and setting some hotkeys to trigger it. Please allow me to present an explanation of how to perform su

:-) Buttons and buttons, I saw your Hotlinks toolbar posting, where you offered some ready to use button graphics and code. Being that hotlinks and typed urls are the only 'bookmarks' I've used so far (it's only been a few days) it was interesting to me, and I will probably use it in the future. As for menus, I was greatly impressed with the ability to customize all menus

Siria, your knowledge may have already surpassed what I'm about to say, but I've written the following to help (and answer) you and others, as well as to document my own progress and put desga2's suggestions into action. Your question is one I asked myself, which is how I got here, and I've learned how to do some of what you desired to do. To add new context menus two thing

Thank you John, it looks like "ird.yahoo.com" might cover the UK and Europe. I have edited my original posting to include your server along with some others I found. I suggest adding "ch1.yahoo.com" to your list, as CH1 and IRD seem to cover Europe. Siria, thank you for your kind words. I've seen your enthusiasm for this browser and I've begun to share in some of
