LOL!

Sigh, being curious, I couldnt resist experimenting a bit with KM1.6  Not much, and no JS, considering tons of baidu-spyware and trojans reported. And after a while got a "different" page... no bird! Still mostly empty, but probably caused by blocked JS, no idea. Anyway, if anyone wants to test further, my current test settings are (and maybe only 1 or 2 were necessary?): - ALL

There are at least some 20 different prefs in modern gecko just to control video output! It's a jungle and I have no deeper knowledge, but somewhere in the forum here are recents threads with lots of info.... From memory just: if you're using the same KM profile as before, it must be something in the OS causing this, and the suspect is that "windows media foundation" thing. Perhaps t

Good to hear! (and especially good to finally know WHY it didn't work :D) Now wonder: what about your history probs? You mentioned in the past it didn't stick either. Does that work too now, or did you perhaps find some other solution meanwhile?

Perhaps should mention: be careful to delete only the "profile.ini" without "s" in the name, because somewhere exists also a "profileS.ini" which is an important one, containing a list of profile paths. Regarding bookmarks, I'd delete the whole path in the prefs completely, hoping this will cause KM to restore the "normal" path again - wherever that is.

Now The onscreenkeyboard opens when you press in the adress bar. But when you click on the search field nothing happens. And on some pages you can use the workaround to press into the adress bar and than to search field but on other pages the keyboard disapears when you click on the search field becouse he thinks you wanna look on the home page. If the URL bar works that can be used for searche

@James: actually he only mentions URL and Search input fields (assume the one inside the Home page) And well possible that Win10 already offers a default icon in the taskbar for opening the keyboard, screenshot of it here: http://www.borncity.com/blog/2015/08/20/windows-10-upgrade-fix-fr-bildschirmtastatur-im-tabletmodus-medion-akoya-p2214t/ @Martin: Hast du unter den Windows-Einstellungen

@all: anyone here has a win10 tablet?? @James: sure one of us can do that. Good idea! Would just prefer to see it tested first. PS: the prob is that he has NO keyboard, and the bug is that not even a virtual one opens automatically for input fields, as it should on tablets.

there is an inline-JS in page HTML. It cannot be blocked by our js-switcher (F7) as it blocks only separate js-file loaded from webpage. Huh - is that a new bug?? In older versions this general setting always blocked ALL js, and is supposed to. The other setting, which is ONLY meant for external files is the permissions.default.script (or similar, only from memory)

anyway to use lateral buttons of my mouse? No idea, and not much hope, but the closest alternative would be to use Mouse Gestures. Enable them in F2 (last one at bottom) and set the "last selected tab" action to the gesture "right-left" or anything you like. All other gestures are started by holding the right-mouse button down and moving the mouse a tiny bit in a certain di

And if you switch to KM1.6 as everyday browser, as medium solution? Also starting to fail more and more now, sadly, but the engine should still be a lot better as KM1. And just looking at filesize, it's a LOT smaller as modern KM76. But just talking from theory :D

Must admit have never tried it myself, but occasionally saw it mentioned: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/wiki/KmmTraining Too old to contain the new 7X commands, but am just glad the old ones mostly still work too - the only ones I'm familiar with ;-) Bad memory and always trying to keep my macros cross-version isn't likely to improve my skills with the new ones. Yeah the wiki could most definit

I have not seen any sort of consumer-friendly user guide that introduces K-Meleon and explains the basics, preferences, accelerator configuration, etc. Is there one? Is a new one needed? Sadly not. Sorry :-/ Only an extremely outdated one, which once was begun but never got finished because no one had enough time. The closest you can get today is the FAQ, which is only partially outdated

the most reliable way to work with MS OSes without any headache is going step further - avoid ANY folder created and proposed by system including standard user profile tree. Yep, what I've done from day-1 on computers too :-) Although the initial reason was back then: if everything is in my own folders I can easily tell for sure what are my own additions (can be tinkered with or deleted) and wha

Same prob here on KM1.6. Solutions welcome too  :D Lately that prob gets really annoying! Happens most often when reading twitter or facebook, both mobile. After browser start first all works fine, only some time later it randomly gets some hiccup and https is broken!

Hmm... so his KM is set to be portable (=a file "profile.ini" is in KM program folder), so it keeps the profiles inside and looks for them there. But this programs folder is by default write-protected on newer Win systems, as long as user doesn't manually change his rights. And his bookmarks are placed outside, in some windows user folder... That brings up a dim memory... Have rea

Bookmark target is not in preferences anymore? Am I mistaken or aren't you the one whose history is also forever broken, and no one can reproduce? That's certainly the same weird reason, profile related, must be something on your system. Often some security/privacy/cleanup tool etc., no idea.

There are infos about my sessions in pref.js clearly but I can't access them from the menu. Makes me wonder, because newer KM-versions have a different session storage (own session files in profile folder) as old KM versions (in prefs.js) Perhaps those are just old inherited sessions there, and the newer ones in the profile folder are separate? Am not sure, but guess for the new ones there was

injectJS limit: the wiki says it's about 4kB, but somehow I think Dorian increased it recently... or may confuse it with another command... http://kmeleonbrowser.org/wiki/macrolanguage2 Never noticed any limit for variables. Yeah the escaping is the hardest part. function(x).... Shouldn't the x be removed here? And afterwards the x be defined as a var first...

A new piece of information that I just came across. http://www.neowin.net/news/facebook-malware-spreading-to-users-via-google-chrome For now, we advise users of Facebook to be extra careful of what they click on, and stay away from elements that might compromise their accounts. As usual, just great. The only advice they ever have is "be extra careful". Ha ha... as if malware wou

Uhm, I had hoped that you could test, since you can do those zip-tests :D No, I don't have Java here on 98 either, but obviously KM just unzips them to run, no Java needed. The chrome-folder contains some natively, like console2.jar etc., and KM-old-version "addons" must be contained as *.jar too. KM-URL e.g. chrome://console2/content/console2.xul shows KM/chrome/console2.jar (which

The number of links is just a plain number, that is easy to transfer with injectJS and return-function. And the links don't need to be transfered 1 by 1, only one complete list per page. I'd leave the JS part to John... My concerns with transfering lots of text between JS+macro are rather all the non-latin characters that can nowadays be contained in URLs, and other special characters. Let alon

Would it work from within a .jar file too? Because KM treats those as folder path, if the ending is left out. Or only in certain conditions, no idea. Then again... on my modern job computer the Explorer treats zip-files as folder too. Perhaps it would work by just adding the vbs after the zip path... with or without the folder ending... just a thought, may well be wrong ;-)

I had hoped that my understanding of WScript would help but an not too sure anymore. Perhaps that would really help? Perhaps it can write into a file? Of WScript I have 0.0 clue!
