In Win98se, whether you put a default download directory in either USER.JS or PREFS.JS, everything is defaulting to dowloading in the desktop instead.

I see no responses here to my post, so am I right in assuming that nobody other than myself is experiencing this problem?

In user.js I have:
user_pref("kmeleon.general.saveDir","D:\\Temp\\")
and, like rumpel finds, it works fine using v0.8.2+ under Win 98SE.

OK, it works now. I was using old code from 0.8.2. Didn't register with me that they had changed it. Now it works.

NEW
user_pref("kmeleon.general.saveDir","C:\\DL\\")

OLD
user_pref("browser.download.dir", "C:\\DL");
