Most of the time when i try to start K-meleon it doesn't start.

I hit enter the, process appears in the task manager, and after about 10s i get the critical stop sound and the process terminates again.

I used to have this problem with K-meleon 0.7 SP1 too.

When I can get it to run it works fine but about 95% of the times I try it won't run.

Also there aren't any error messages in the event viewer. Is there a possibility to enable a debug setting so that you could get some information out of this?

Ok i'll have a go at it, i'm running J2SE v1.4.1_02 atm.

Sorry for the late reply but I din't had the chance to reboot yet.

So I just rebooted after installing J2SE 1.4.2_02 and K-Meleon still doesn't launch.
I did notice the Quickstart component beeing launched on startup but I couldn't launch the browser from there either.

Exit the loader and see if you can get it to start.

I tried that and it still din't launch.

Luckely I quite like K-Meleon as a backup browser and I almost gave up but I saw there was a new version out today so I coudln't resist trying again

After fiddeling around and merging the profile from Mozilla Firebird 0.7 a few times I finally managed to start K-Meleon 0.8.1.

My merging of the profiles altered the prefs.js so that certain settings specific to K-Meleon where gone after overwriting it.

So K-Meleon asked wich plugins it should load. I said yes to all except for the "IE Favorites Plugin" wich I suspected for a long time beeing the whole starting point for all the problems.

Mozilla had a similar problem a while ago (I don't know wether if it's fixed or not) but if you had a link to a folder in your favorites then during the first startup in wich the favorites get imported Mozilla wouldn't work either (Wich isn't the case here).

Anyway the end result is if I don't load the "IE favorites plugin" K-meleon works fine.

So I added this to my user.js after looking at the prefs.js file:
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.favorites.load", false);


Is there a limit on the amount of favorites one can have or on the amount of folders there can be?

Favorites dir specs:

Size.......................: 5,69 MB (5.969.041 bytes)
Size On Disk..........: 338 MB (355.368.960 bytes)
Contains.................: 10.711 Files, 1863 Folders

Also renaming the favorites dir to something else didn't help here since windows keeps referring to it and I don't want to mess with it too much.

Update:

I checked all my bookmarks.

I've fixed all bookmarks wich where longer then the 255char file length limit (about 15-20).

I deleted from my bookmarks folder:
1 Text file
1 Empty file
1 Exe + Gif file (wich I accidentally copied to the favorites folder a while ago )

I've reenabled the Favorites plugin and K-Meleon still doesn't load.

But now I saw the bugs section and there was one post that said that there's a 5000 bookmark limit so I'm way beyond that.

So I've now filed a bug report.

Hey, thanks. I went to edit/preferences/plugins and unchecked ie favorites. K-Meleon now loads almost instantly.

I just installed version 0.6.5 of K-Meleon after aol tried to hijack my mozzila as a result of signing up for webmail.

Running Windows ME and IE 5.5 for heavy surfing had led to balky startups and shutdowns, plus the annoying spool 32 errors. Then I heard the guys on Techtv saying you can't polish a turd when referring to IE. At which point I got the message, renamed my IE and the error reporting application that goes with it so nothing can find it, but I can undo the rename if needed.

And then I woke up and installed version 8.1, duh!!!
