Hello all.

I am an Opera user(6.05). I have been very pleased with it, but I wanted to find a 2nd browser. I installed Phoenix recently, and while i loved the easy customization of it, both the milestone, and nightly builds have serious memory resource(leak maybe) problems on my system. I like to have 2, or 3 browsers opened at a time, minimized in the taskbar, sometimes with 20+ windows opened each. With Phoenix, once it sits minimized(in taskbar) for a few minutes, it takes forever to restore, sometimes 2-3 minutes. When I monitor it with my task manager, it will slowly increase the mem. usage for between 30 secs., and 3 min.(depending how many windows I have opened), sometimes reaching as high as 180,000K. It will not become usable until the mem. usage stops climbing. Opera never goes any higher than 65-70,000K tops, and will always restore almost instantly.

Anyway, I d/l'ed k-mel.7 yesterday. It seems very fast. Almost as fast as Opera. But what blew me away was the mem. usage. It uses less mem. than any of my other browsers by far. I've haven't seen it use more than about 30,000K of memory so far. I opened about 30-35 windows(mostly threads in this forum) in it, just to see how hard it is to crash, and restore from taskbar. Not a problem. Right know I have 34 windows opened, with 3/4's of them maximized. Mem. usage-29,992K. Comes back right away from taskbar too, even after prolonged inactivity. Are you sure this is the same engine as Phoenix?(j/k)

Another thing I love about k-mel is the "open in background" option in the right-click menu. I like to open multiple threads in a forum at once, and it's nice not to have to minimize each one seperately from foreground. I have only seen this feature on k-mel, and Opera. With Phoenix, you can do that with tabbed browsing, but I really have no use for tb.(just another bar to take up screen real estate)

All in all, this is a really nice browser. Fast, and stable. I'm probably going to make it my 2nd browser of choice behind Opera, and that's just because Opera has some features I've grown too accustomed to, to do without...mouse gestures, rocker navigation, full page zoom(image and text), saved window setup.

I'm really glad I tried k-mel.
