When I run the installer .EXE I get the following error message:
http://www.mc-fadzean.fsnet.co.uk/computing/km10b7.png
Am running Win 2000 + SP4.
True error or download corruption, I wonder.
Do you have an MD5 file signature I could check my download against?

Dorian:

Using the newest K-Meleon . . . K-Meleon 1.0Beta 7 . . .

So far, one item recommend changing in menus.cfg . . .

In prior versions . . . a menu item for Undo Last Closed Ctrl+Alt+Z was available. In the newest version ( Beta 7 ) . . . the item is available in menus ( Edit ) if using sessions Plugin . . . however not otherwise.

By adding the following lines to menus.cfg. . .

%ifplugin layers & macros
macros(OpenClosed, Undo Last Closed\tCtrl+Alt+Z)
-
%endif

AFTER Edit{ will resolve the situation.

Great job . . . and . . . once again . . . thank-you very much.

And with the new KKO's prefs panel, the K-Meleon's menu structure could be simplified a lot. I'm going to add his great work into the Tab version K-Meleon (K-MeleonCCF) also. Thanks.

Works on Win 98 SE, 120 Mhz, 48 meg memory.

The XUL is a little sluggish, but I don't change options all that often!.

Problem when I tried downloading with Getright. The download file repeats the first 1024 bytes over and over. Then I tried downloading again using K-Meleon and it works perfect! Maybe a leech file prevent-er is running on your server?

Thank you very much Dorian!

Dorian:

Regarding K-Meleon 1.0 Beta 7 . . .

1. There does not seem to be an obvious 'direct' way to set K-Meleon as the 'default' browser from a menu selection . . . like it used to be in prior versions under Tools.

2. Edit -> Advanced Preferences -> Category Browsing . . . when press button for "Set as Default Brower . . ." it appears to be trying to INSTALL K-Meleon, rather then making the RegEdit changes to make K-Meleon a default browser.

Dorian,

Don't know for sure if this is a bug or not, as it flashed on my screen pretty fast. I use the web search/options/ get new search engines capability to grab Metacrawler search engine. I then unlocked Google, clicked on MetaCrawler and got some fleeting error message about not being in sync. When I rebooted, Google was still the search engine. I did it again and the next time I rebooted, Metacrawler was the engine.

Don't know what, if anything, to make of this.

Overall, very impressed with this. Think you're really getting close now.

Thanks very much Dorian for both the MD5 and the new version.
My MD5 was a9c20c8222466158cdec5319cc1b833d so I downloaded the installer again and it now checks out correctly. The new version seems very good so far!

@Sliderule:

1) The "Undo Last Closed" option is still in the layer button popup menu. The option has been removed from Edit menu, because reopening closed layers has nothing to do with editing.

2) The menu option to set K-Meleon as default browser has been removed. Our aim is to reduce the menu clutter. Options that are not often changed have been moved to Advanced Preferences.

3) Advanced Preferences' "Set As Default Browser..." button works as intended. Check the installation path (necessary when more than one K-MeleonSM is installed), press "Next >" and you will find what you are looking for.

kko:

Regarding the Edit -> Advanced Preferences -> Set as Default Browser

The screen that is displayed says:

"Choose Install Location - Choose the folder in which to install K-Meleon 1.0."

Next it says:

"Setup will install K-Meleon 1.0 in the following folder. To install in a different folder, click Browse and select another folder. Click Next to continue."

BUT . . . the user has already installed K-Meleon, and, only desires to set it as the "Default Browser".

I am only trying to avoid 'confusion' from users when they see the screen. Perhaps, if the wording were changed, that would help.

Jeff:

You asked "Do groups work again now?" . . . in my experimentation with K-Meleon 1.0 Beta 7 . . . yes, groups appears to be working.

I noticed that when I right-click on the Layers bar, the GO button menu pops up.
Is that expected behavior ?

Thankyou very much dorian I am enjoying trying this out.

One question regarding hotlinks, I want the facility to store more of them :-)
Can I extend the number available in your version in a similar manner as outlined in this thread? [about 1/3 of way down page]

Is there a way I can use the titlebar icon in the URL/layer toolbars instead of this page icon? It looks very splotchy on this computer.

I've uploaded a new version of 'Advanced Preferences' panel to my project site. I've corrected some bugs (nothing serious). The archive offered for download is intended to update K-MeleonSM 1.0b7.

In case you experience any problems with the panel, please report to this thread or send me mail.
