Thanks for keeping us posted on the updates and for putting in your time (which, as I understand, you don't have much of lately) and expertise in to create this.

I understand Brian that the update will NOT function
on certain builds. I know it will NOT work on those
made by Hao and Dorian.
But will it work on ALL others currently using 1.7.12.
I am speaking of those such as made by JU JU,
Bean Boy, K-M original update plus 7,
0.9.12 official release, etc?
Do any of these need additional modifications?
And thank you many times for your great updates.

In the .txt file he says it will only work over clean installations.

Anyway, as I'm a bit lazy, I've installed it on my 0'9 GRE 1'7'12e updated spanish version and works perfectly by now.

I'm also a newbee, but, as far as I know, Dorian's and Hao's most recent build are mainly based on the Seamonkey GRE and experimental GREs as the 0'8. So they are completely different systems. It's like trying to install an Internet Explorer patch on Firefox.

I think that this patch is to be used on 0'9 K-Meleons, I don't know if it will work on the last official (0'9'12) because there are on it some changes that I don't know how they were introduced. On my 0'9 GRE updated K-Meleon the changes were made only as macros and prefs.js so it's not really a deep modification and the patch seems to work OK.

The best way to find it is trying :-) you can always reinstall it.

Please excuse me if I said something incorrect or inexact, I have little idea about technical matters. More than really helpy I'm just trying to be "orientative".

I just installed this 1.7.13 update in a original K-Meleon 0.9 that has only Brian Bruns GRE updates previously installed and it is working fine!

Generally, Brian Patches always works fine :-)

And this is based on a preliminary nightly build, just wait a few weeks to see the official release.

I just updated from the 12e and everything works good so far.

Same here with the update from 12e. Kudos to Brian.

To make changes work correctly on an old install (and have a way to go back)

1) Ren chrome >> chrome_old
2) Ren components >> components_old
3) Delete chrome.rdf and overlayinfo un chrome
4) Delete xul.mfl (and perhaps chrome\chrome.rdf) in profile folders
5) put the update under K-Meleon (I suppose it creates the chrome and components folders
6) Launch K-Meleon

It's then easy to go back if there are problems. Don't forget in this case to repeat 4) and 5)

If it's good, just delete old folders.

I haven't tried, but this update must work with all 0.9 KM version.

What is meant by old install?

I think he means, by an old install, an installation that is currently being used normally. For example mine, that was installed a month ago.

Anyway, I installed the patch over my old install without doing nothing before and it worked without problems (but I did assume the risk of having to uninstall it completely if missworking).

At this point, I have no idea what and if the update did anything, and, unfortunately, i do not have information about my previous build, which was a 1.7.12 update. I am working from an unzipped file. When i did the installation of the KM-GRE-1.7.13 file, I did not see anything but a blinking in the 1.7.12 update folder. And, nothing seems to have happened when I open the browser. It was still 1.7.12.
Then, I proceeded to look for any change in the 1.7.12, and that's when I found a "kmeleon" folder, which was placed there by the installation. At this point, I decided to do something which was, probably, ill-advided. I copy the contents of the new "kmeleon" folder, and paste it into the mail folder. Primarily, the component folder was replaced. Now, my User Agent reads: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20050914 K-Meleon/0.9.
Obviously, I have a mish-mash of 1.7.12 and 1.7.13,
I even tried to reinstall the original 0.9, and the new GRE falls, harmlessly, into the installed folder, doing nothing at all.
I must have missed something, completely. I am satisfied with the fact that I can use K-meleon. Except for the schizophrenic User Agent, I see nothing amiss.
At this point, i don't even know which 1.7.12 build I have. May be the the date will give it away.

Well, the installation looks pretty easy to me. Just have an 0'9 or 0'9'12 K-meleon (better if newly installed and never runned) and then execute the patch, telling it to install just inside the K-Meleon folder you currently have.

I have always done it easily without problems.

Just installed the 1.7.13 update on my laptop and is running fine as always.
I thought I saw the lizard grin just a little wider after I completed the installation. Another excellent GRE update from Brian Bruns.

Im updating an old notebook (133MHz / 16MB RAM only / Win98SE) which is running KM 0.9 and I can't get to load it anymore after installation of GRE 1.7.13 rev.9
I haven't had any problems so far updating any other machines with low memory, but they were all 32MB and more - is my problem related to memory size or should i search for the problem somewhere else? thx

Have you tried reinstalling 0.9 or 0.9.12 and updating to 1.7.13? Maybe you left something small out. Try reading the "read me" included with the update.
