Which build is faster in everyday use? This one or ME?

The 'fastest' is often very subjective.
I find Dorians K-meleonSM 1.0b5 to be superb (it is my default browser) as
well as K-Meleon 0.9.12 works well.
The previous CCF editions had too many conflicts between flashblock and
AdBlock for me. I have just downloaded K-MeleonCCF 0.05.1 and will give
it a try.

Richard - AFAIK - they all use the similar GREs and same exe. they are subversions of the same browser. (except for 0.9.x which has other slower engine). the blockers &
proxy settings are not neede by all.
But if You use any of them first time - they are sure the fastest : )

After rebooting the computer, the first time I run this K-Meleon build, it takes about 30 seconds with the CPU load at 100% to start up. (This is not the initial run after installation where K-Meleon needs to build the default profile. It's the first run, with the profile already in place, after a reboot.) Has anyone else seen this happening? Other than this, there aren't any problems that I noticed, so it's the only thing keeping me from upgrading from K-Meleon CCF 0.04 Final on some of the slower machines.

@rstlne,
Using an old laptop...Pentium 3...
running 98SE...After a reboot it
takes about 7-10 seconds to start
up. I'm quite enjoying this version
so far...so good.
Peace,

Hi,
I experimented a little bit with this version. I am not a professional user, so it may be that some of my following observations and questions are a little bit simple minded or perhaps there are some functions which are system-inherent and cannot be avoided.
Anyhow, perhaps it helps for further development.
1. why is there a double managment of bookmarks>favorites versus bookmarks ? This is rather confusing.
2. when I delete single favorite-adresses in the sidebar with right click>delete this has no effect on the entries in bookmarks>add/edit or favorites>add/explore=
folder of favorites. When I restart the browser the deleted entries are shown again in the side bar.
3. if you delete an adress in "favorites>add/explore" you have to close and reopen the browser so that this adress is not further listed under "favorites"
4. if you add with "favorites>add" an adress is listed under "favorites" and in "bookmarks>add/edit" but not in the adresses in the bookmark-sidebar.You have to restart the browser so that this is shown in the sidebar of bookmarks.
5.The browser doesn't memorize the opening of the bookmark in the sidebar. When you start the browser you always have to open the sidebar an the folder
"Favorites" in the sidebar. The opening of the sidebar with F4 makes it a little bit easier.
6. When I sort my favorites with "bookmarks>add/edit>Favorites>right click>sort" single adresses are treated like folders for the sorting, so that these single entires are distributes about the whole list and between the favorites-folders. Is it possible to sort and list first the folders and then the single adresses at the end of the favorite folders ?
XP-home-user.

The only problem I've come across so far is the tooltip bug. Once this tooltip bug is eliminated, I would be able to say this is the best web browser I've ever used... or, at least that's the way it's looking right now.

Oh yes... one thing I forgot to report. The "Find As You Type" feature doesn't work in this build. :-(... That's one of my favorite features. I use it at least 15 times a day. From what I saw, it looks like a pref needs to be set to true in order for it to work (accessibility.typeaheadfind). I have this pref set to true and it still doesn't work.

@Brian,
I didn't include the corresponding dll for type and find features. I should have done this

. Mainly because I seldom uses this feature. I will include it in the next release. Thanks.

with the following I try to complete my observations with the bookmark-Management from yesterday (hope it is interesting):
1. Changements (deleting of files, adresses, installing a new folder) with right click in the sidebar "bookmarks">favorites seemed not to have any effect for the general favorites bookmark-file. So what is the use of the sidebar ?
2. Each time I open "bookmark">add/edit the display setting "about blanc" is added to bookmark-sidebar and to the windows which opens when you click on "bookmark"above the mainbar so that sometimes I have 5,6 .....of this entries in the sidebar bookmark and in the window which opens clicking on "bookmark".
I like this version of KM very much because it is fast, not overloaded with functions, it is quickly installed and started, scin with clear and not too little icons/symbols and it is running without problems with the exception of the bookmark management. I love the sidebar and that's reason I installed this version but for me and perhaps for other beginners especially the functioning of the bookark-sidebar is not comprehensible.

Do you think it would be okay for me to bring over the missing DLL from another installation of K-Meleon? Which DLL is it? I'm guessing it's in the components folder.

@bst82551
What problem do you still have with tooltips ? This version should fix the tooltips showing up when the cursor is on the toolbars or the status bar.
@rstlne
luamacro may be not fully compatible with this build, and futhermore you're using 2003 which is difficult to support. Are you able to reproduce the crash ?

@ the moment I use test versions issued by Dorian.
No i di not suggest that You leave this version. I merely tried to inform You that the SM based k-meleon are work in progress. exe and dll are made by Dorian.
Hao makes new macros and language zh issues.
Other ppl also try to help.
You also helped with Your commenting a possible bug.
The problems are possibly inside exe and dll?
With bookmarks i am not sure whether there is a technical solution - it is like that for long & even after Dorian fixed some other old bugs. The Sidebar is brand new work.
Modularity of k-m would permitt to use other menus & macros in other languages ; )

@Dorian
I believe this tooltip bug is in the GRE because it only happens when I hover over a link or image with a title set in the html tag and close the tab before the tooltip goes away. At this point, I am stuck with an orphaned tooltip which will not go away unless I hover over a link or image with the title set in the html tag. I could take a screenshot, but if you don't understand what i'm talking about already... you would need a video, not a screenshot.

How are you able to close the tab with a tooltip visible ? If you move the mouse the tooltip disappear and if you try to close the tab using ctrl+w, the tooltip dissappear as soon as you hit ctrl.
Anyways, fixed for next release.

Hmm... well, when I catch one, I'll try to watch it and see exactly how I did it.
I know it wasn't from using CTRL + W because I almost never use that key combination. I will try to get a better description for you when/if I run across the problem again.

I don't know how I confused K-Meleon into thinking that, but I did. It also happens when I simply switch to another tab very quickly and the tooltip hasn't gone away. I know the problem still exists in this version because I just got it to stick right after I finished posting my last message. This is the sort of thing that I have a VERY hard time reproducing, so I'm still not sure if what I explained in the image above is really what's happening. I will continue to try to figure out what it could be.

I see +000147D3 is on Load. Did you look the clash at startup?
These clash case happened on msvcrt.dll. luamacros and utils are using msvcrt for C library, but other components are using msvcr71. Perhaps this difference cause the problem.
Thanks.

There is a difference in ths last kmeleon build and UWM_UPDATEBUSYSTATE. Wparam is always 0 in kmeleon 0.9, but with the last build you have to check if it's 0 before calling the onload macro. It may be the reason of the crash.
For msvcrt conflict, the only ones are with DecodeUTF8 and EncodeUTF8, since you have to free a pointer allocated by k-meleon.
