I have uploaded once more to Rapidshare an improved version
of K-Meleon-ME1.7.12-mod-fromCD.
It can now be adapted for CD drive letters D, E, F, G, or H.
You can also burn several different versions for different
CD drives on one CD.
Nothing will be written on a computer, that you use, where you
have no writing rights.
* To run from CD which is drive D: .
* Unzip the zip file into a fresh folder on your harddisk and burn only the folder ProgramFiles3 and its contents on a CD.
* To run from CD which is drive E, F, G, or H :
* Unzip the zip file into a fresh folder on your harddisk.
* Replace the file ProgramFiles3/K-Meleon9/defaults/pref/prefs.js by the prefs.js suitable for the drive letter, which is :
For drive E : prefs.js in Folder ProgramFilesE,
For drive F : prefs.js in Folder ProgramFilesF,
For drive G : prefs.js in Folder ProgramFilesG,
For drive H : prefs.js in Folder ProgramFilesH .
Burn then only the Folder ProgramFiles containing prefs.js adapted for your
drive letter and its contents on a CD.
* Click on k-meleon.exe in the folder K-Meleon09 and the plugins installation will start.
* You can prepare a homepage.html, bookmarks.html and opera.adr on a floppy disk, if you have access. When you are asked for it, after starting the browser, search for the path to it on your floppy.
If you do not have bookmarks, click on the empty bookmarks/opera in the K-Meleon09 directory.
* There will be no history and no cache.
* Groups do not work.
* Ads are not blocked.
* Security updated to Mozilla 1.7.12 Standard, Gecko date 20050915.
* Various search macros have been added.
* Aggreg8 (RSS) included.
* The most important toolbars are on one line.
* The button P (second from left) opens Preferences and the Compact Menu (right click).
* The menubar is beneath the URL bar (use the Compact menu--> right click button P.).
* The Search button(third from lft) gives access to many added search engines(right click).
* J is the Javascript button (second from right). Press it to block Javascript.
* The Bookmarks button (first from right). Right click opens your bookmarks. You must determine the path to them before in Preferences/Plugins/Netscape Bookmark Plugin/Configure). Left click opens the Bookmarks window.Search it by typing on its titlebar.
* The context menu has been modified, for example with Toolbars, where you can activate the other toolbars, like layers, special bar, privacy bar, bookmarks bar.
* International papers are preconfigured for Aggreg8 RSS Reader.
* Keyboard navigation:
CTRL VK_LEFT = Page back
CTRL VK_RIGHT = Page forward
CTRL VK_DOWN = Close window
ALT < = previous layer
ALT Y = next layer

thx Fred - maybe You can also look at bug 530 / sort of RFE k-m on cd.
I am not sure whether my idea is possible - but it would be worth considering
to place the k-m on cd some place that is permanent such as Wiki. greeting to CH

The mentioned solution is basically the same as in
my KM from CD.
I can put this version on the page for unofficial K-Meleons.
