! :-) ! Hey hey hey! Where does THIS come from? Hao, you are supposedly in China on vacation, aren't you? And you are STILL favouring us with new builds ?!?
Thank you very much. I think I'll call this my "Out of China" build. :-)

TransitMan,
Do you need VC71 library to run it? This version is built VC71.

I finally got everything working nicely this morning. I wuz putting up a new Windows Millennium OS, and maybe my earlier problems were connected to that. All is well now; I have this ME in ME.
I like Silverbird's background, but in my system the icons are a bit fuzzy. I'm using Nuvola in this one.
Thanks a lot, Hao. Looks like a very nice default browser for my Millennium partition.

Does anyone has "Import bookmark problem " ?
After I imported the bookmark. K-meleon doesn't restart.

Rainman, when K-M doesn't start after something like that, it strongly suggests that it is impossible for it to complete the command.
I would use Task Manager to make sure there isn't still a k-meleon.exe running. If there is, I'd "end-task" it.
Then I'd try again, just in case.
If no go, I'd end-task that attempt, so I knew I wuz clear, and then I'd go into my K-Meleon files and change my bookmarks.html into bookmarks-failed.html. Then I would try again to see if K-M would start.
Hopefully, that will return you to square zero.
Of course, you still won't have your bookmarks installed. Previously, Hao and Fred had one or two builds which reacted exactly as you describe to bookmarks installs. If I recall, the problem was never solved. However, in this build, my bookmarks are working exactly as they should.
One question: when you refer to "importing" bookmarks, what procedure did you use? I'm wondering because when bookmarks settings involve browsing for your bookmarks.html file, you are not really importing anything; you are just pointing the browser to the file location you intend to share. Please detail what you did. Thanks.
Vancouver looks pretty nice these days, doesn't it? :-)

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering, how do I uninstall Hao's CCFME 0.03 build? I've installed it on my sister's computer and she is now requesting me (more so demanding) that I uninstall it.
P.S., I think Hao's build is very good. I've been messing around with it for the past day and it seems to work just fine, but some pages do not render correctly (such as NBA.com). Like TransitMan, I also didn't need the VC71 files. I got CCFME 0.03 working right away with WinXP Home and Professional SP2.
Thanks

The beauty of any program installed by way of just a ZIP or an EXE file is in the simplicity of the uninstall. Basically you just:
1. Delete the program file, such as C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\Hao Jiang [or whatever--if you have a few, be careful to get the right one!]
2. Right-click the desk-top icon and delete it.
3.
Then, to run a clean machine, it is good practice to clean your registry. You'll always get warnings about this, because it is not a place to experiment. Just stick to the safe stuff, if you are given an option. You don't actually need to do the job all by yourself, though. There are many registry cleaning programs that will do it semi-automatically for you. I'll show you 2 that are highly recommended:
-- Pretty, easy to use, nice GUI, friendly, and free for 30 days (after which it will quit working unless you buy it for about $40): TuneUp Utilities 2004, at
http://www.tune-up.com/
-- The very same thing, but it doesn't look like it; used by people more familiar with their systems; free forever; efficient but without hand-holding (after the scan, you select the ones you want to, or even select All, take a deep breath, and press delete on your keyboard; then you quit and restart the computer--you hope): RegSeeker 1.45, at
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The more programs you install and delete, the more you want to clean your registry of broken bits and pieces of debris these programs leave behind. If you have had your computer for two or three years and you have never done this, you will take off a frightening number of files--maybe over 1,000--and you will likely see a speed difference afterward. If you use registry cleaners almost every day, you will take off 6 to 15 files only.
If you do take off a huge number of files, run the registry cleaner again immediately, because it will take off more files that were depending on those ones. You may want to run it three times, until it is removing very few files.
The inevitable caveat: I've never had trouble with these programs, and I've used them for years. At worst, a registry clean gone wrong could render your computer unbootable. Your call.

snafu:
needed the three files.
components
2 few dll files = about:config not working.
small chrome - almost no about:about
- but smaller chrome makes the beast faster ; o )
- and user.js is good enought 2 config : o )
i also tried it with bigger more complete GRE and joinded xpt.
works like a charm - rock stabel and fast.
greetings & have fun

@SEFU - as Carson said already. these test programs are not installed really.
they are unzipped used/tested and can be deleted because they are not supposed to
write much into registry (not even on NT based systems).
That is even mor self contained thatn other test programs
becuase all of K-M is in his k-meleon folder.
(No Profles folder hidden somewhere like other Mozilla Programs)
p. s. that are things that i like about this install method and the browser.
(& about old Dos based Windows - no complicated growing registry and deinstall)

What I 'm aware is for XP sp2 system, you don't need VC71.dll files, but for 9x, you might need them.

Thanks Carson and guenter. My sister will be happy :-) Also further thanks to Carson for providing some good advice about registry cleaners.
I really like the CCF ME 0.03 build. I've been using it quite a bit and it does take some getting used to. One thing I would like to see changed though is the lack of scrolling functionality in the bookmarks or favorites menus. I mean, the ability to use the mouse scroll wheel to scroll down your bookmarks or favorites menu would be great.
Also, another issue is that my window font (the active part of the browser that contains most of the reading material) is particularly small. I try and increase the font size from 12 to 14 for example, but then the webpage would go out of proportion. I'm on my laptop and my screen resolution is at 1600x1200 (any other resolution makes anything on my screen look bad). Is there anyway to fix this or is it something I have to live with?
About the 'User Agent' function in K-M. What is that? I've messed around with it a little and I can't seem to figure out what it does.

The 'User Agent' is what the browser uses to identify itself to the server. That it is an IE, a K-Meleon, a Firefox or an Opera.... that is browsing the server.
This is because there are servers that uses it to discriminate between browsers. Giving different content for different browsers, or rarely just outright complains about your browser. Like the way Microsoft sometimes says to use IE when you're trying to get something -- they have valid reasons to though, because IE allows some Microsoft ActiveX plugin which they use to authenticate your OS or something.
It's probably an artifact from the browser wars -- where each browser (Netscape and IE) renders things quite differently and have different rendering engines, which forced a number of designers to create separate pages for the two browsers.

Usually you can just ignore the 'User Agent'. Unless you want to disguise as something else. Do note that it is still possible for servers to find out what browser you're using, but it requires Javascript and some effort by the managers of the server.
Regarding the font size, you can always try the zoom function. I don't know how to make that zoom level stick though. Some custom versions of K-Meleon also have that 'Font size setting' under the Tools menu, which you can try.

Carson, I follow your advises butI still can't use old bookmarks.html in the K-meleon CFM 0.03.
If I''m the only one to experience this problem that could be a winxp with sp1 in my computer. So I will try to install it in other computer running Win98se t.
Also, I realize each time I had restarted K-meleon with a replaced bookmarks.html. A file named parant.lock was created in the profile folder.
Does anyone has any idea of this file?
Carson, I think Summer finally arrive so enjoy it. :-)

Hi SEFU!
I'm a person who has impaired vision. Therefore I must set my fonts at a very high setting in KM. All of them. Now what I am about to show you will turn off the webpage fonts in favour of your own fonts, which is the solution which I use. In otherwords: If you choose "Tahoma" to be your font at 16px---then ALL fonts on the page will be Tahoma 16px regardless of what the Webmaster has chosen for a font, see what I mean?
The code that I am pasting here must be placed in User.js file. So you would copy this (making sure that each user_pref is
one line) and go on your menubar above to: Edit/Preferences/Configs/User.js and pasting it all in there. Press the "Ok" button when finished. A box will come up asking if you really wish to save it and click "Yes". Restart browser (quitting the Loader.exe if you use that buggy programme) and you'll see your changes.
#Font settings. "0" turns off all page fonts to yours.
user_pref("browser.display.use_document_fonts", 0);
user_pref("font.default", "sans-serif");
user_pref("font.minimum-size.x-unicode", 16);
user_pref("font.minimum-size.x-western", 16);
user_pref("font.name.cursive.x-unicode", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.cursive.x-western", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.fantasy.x-western", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.monospace.x-unicode", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.monospace.x-western", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.sans-serif.x-unicode", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.sans-serif.x-western", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.serif.x-unicode", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.name.serif.x-western", "Tahoma");
user_pref("font.size.fixed.x-unicode", 16);
user_pref("font.size.fixed.x-western", 16);
I hope that this has helped you SEFU!!
Amicalement,

Looks like a good build. I installed it, and actually reenabled some of the toolbars. It's just a bit too minimal for me.
One request: Please add locale/en-US/communicator/security/caps.properties to the en-US.jar file in the chrome, as per the discussion in this thread:
]http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=26774&t=26774
That will resolve the problem with TiddlyWiki.

(Look at that run-on blue ink, despite rstlne's good and proper separation of the quoted URL from his next line. I call it the Blue Ghost of the K-M Forums. It comes and goes, and I'm darned if I can see any consistency to it.
When we were kids, if we bought a little frozen ice-cream cup confection called an "Awful-Awful" (1950s, in Vancouver) and if it turned out there was a hole in the wooden spoon which was frozen into the Awful-Awful, why, we would get another Awful-Awful for free. Therefore I propose that anyone using these forums who is assaulted by the Blue Ghost should get, let's see, hmm, K-M is already free, isn't it . . ? ;-)

To be fair, you can also do the same in another way for K-Meleon, Firefox and even IE. They allow you to insert user specified style sheets. The basic content of your style sheets can be like:
* { font: 16pt tahoma ! important; }
That's it. ^^

Unfortunately, I hit the bookmarks problem. I've been deploying this build slowly, one system at a time, and it happened this morning on a laptop running Windows XP Home.
I narrowed the problem down to where I have a bookmarks file with half a dozen bookmarks in it and that works, but if I add just one more bookmark to it, K-Meleon crashes on startup.
I'll try a few more things, although ideally, it would be better to have a build with debug symbols and source code so that it could be debugged at the time of the crash.
