Here's RC2. Ulf said just a few changes from RC1.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just for general information:

1) The test builds including the Release Candidates are intended for testing, not for general uses. We are looking to test specific fixes and features. That's why we include a list of issues and fixes so that people can test them and report them back. Those list of issues should be included in any report about the build being available.

2) Unless we report the builds here in the Forums, they are not intended for widespread testing. We're not allowed to do unlimited downloads from that location so you're just going to cause Ulf to pull the RC from the server. If someone wants to post it elsewhere, we can't stop that and I don't have a particular problem with it but I do have a problem with the potential to cause problems with our SF hosting.

3) We would appreciate it if problems are reported back to the dev list.

Our intent is that this is the final test before releasing 0.9.

OK, I'm turning off lecture mode now.

Andrew,

Look, why not just get ccs of RC2 out to the "normal suspects" so the download can be mirrored? As it is, it is a pita to sourceforge and to those of us who would like to download and provide bug reports. Right now I'm getting 0.33 bps speed on my second attempt. The first attempt bombed out at 3 megs.

If someone wants to get that mirrored up elsewhere, that's fine.

Andrew,

Thanks, I appreciate that. Using dialup to download KM immediately after posting, is usually an exercise in futility and it showed in my post.

Sorry.

To take the load off from Sourceforge servers I will host the 0.9rc2 on my server for a period of not more than ONE WEEK (To January 18/05).

IF you are going to download this I graciously ask that you do me a favour please! Join the Devlist and report any bugs which you find there as Ulf and others can use the information on that list to help make 0.9 the most perfect version of K-Meleon that we have to date! smiling smiley

I'm doing you a favour by hosting this---so please do me the favour by joining that list and reporting any and all bugs. Thank you!

File:

Devlist Signup:

(Please note: I will have to monitor my bandwidth. If this becomes too much then I may have to suspend this prematurely. I just want to help find the bugs and relieve the pressure from Sourceforge.)

Actually the worst part about it is the link has been posted by somebody else to let's say a "reasonably popular" newsgroup (usenet). Which means that the Sourceforge server is going to now cop it bad.

Thanks Eyes-Only!!

Geoff - I'm not getting down on anyone, I know that everyone doesn't know the "rules". I just put them out there to try and educate everyone.

@Andrew: No problem my friend! Anything I can do, my small share since I can't do much bug/beta testing anymore---so if others can download and join the devlist and report I think that'd be a great help right there towards making this the BEST KM version ever (it already is!).

@Al: Wow... that really IS going to bite on our accounts with Sourceforge where it went out on the usenet... because one usenet gets it and it's like a domino effect, it branches out to others.

Well, mistakes do happen, and that's a part of life. I think when I was new here I probably did it once or twice myself. hehe. We probably all have without thinking as a way of helping to "get the word out", you know? Get the file into the hands of as many as possible to find the bugs, get them quashed, and have as perfect a build as possible (unlike other places which actually writes them off and releases just to get them out quickly >rolls eyes<).

Perhaps the good that will come of all of this is that people with their own ISP servers with the bandwidth to spare, or those with their own servers, or places to host files, will come forth and be able to help Andrew house test files for a limited time period (like a week or two?) so that people can download and do just this. Then we wouldn't have to depend upon the generosity of Sourceforge and maybe lose our accounts with them, etc.

Well, just my idea anyway. So far my t2 lines are handling everything without a problem and it hasn't interferred with people getting their email, or those surfing sites, downloading elsewhere, etc.

If anyone wants builds/betas or anything hosting just say and I can help for an unlimited amount of time hosting. Bandwidth isn't a problem.

Kind regards

Thanks, Eyes-Only. I made a backup partly becuz I wanted to test the download speed, which began about 5 KBps and raced against itself in a steady slow acceleration to a finale of 24 KBps, so it did the whole thing in maybe 3 minutes.

That's acceptable. It happens quite often with various downloads, though my ADSL (Canada's Telus) has an average steady download speed of 160 KBps, up to tops around 195--never quite 200 that I've noticed. The big guys always come in right around 160.
