Got the K-Meleon blues...

Well, I've been mostly using Linux for a few days... And I really miss KM. I've been using Firebird now (I haven't gotten around to install Firefox, but I guess there shouldn't be much difference). Earlier I haven't been able to take part in the many conversations about FB vs. KM, but now...
I just don't understand what part of "light weight" the makers of Firebird don't understand! Sure, it might load webpages the same as KM. And it probably has less useful features than KM. But still it takes an age to start, and the menus are incredibly slow... A browser with none of the great features and customizability of KM should at least work fast! But no!
Ok, sorry for this pointles ranting, but I just wanted to say that KM probably is the best browser out there. I just wish there was a Linux version, but I do understand why it is very unlikely to get one in the near future... Keep up the good work!

Have a look at dpb's project:
http://backarrow.sf.net/
Alternately, I've heard reports that KM works with
WinE using native MFC DLLs, though I've never tested it.

good by and fare well - you have gone the way - i will eventually go; have You tried to get k-m work under wine? - or is the wine overhead slowing k-m down too much? perhaps have You tried beonex (browser alone install) with the scripts we/you use/ed to fasten our k-m in user.js - i hope it/You has/have got that possibility?!
if - tell me/us about it? perhaps.

My PC is rather old (500mhz K6-2), so I don't want to use Wine or anything to burden it...
MonkeeSage: I happen to live in the same household as dpb, so I'm keeping a close eye on his project

. And even though his browser is still very unfinished, it is much better than Firebird...

beonex is no way as fast as k-m - at least not under Win ME, here.
probably phoenix-bird-fox then; ) - better yet dpb make k-m-bird-fox

greetings

Yeah, it's reeeally good to have the BackArrow project as our friend. Wine doesn't run K-Meleon that well (buggy and slow).
Looking forward to the day people talk KM/BA instead of FF/FF.

Actually, I expect BA's reception will be better than KM simply because Linux users are generally smarter than us. (Ouch, no, don't hit me!)
At least they won't ask, "How do I open a the config files in Notepad? They're not text files!"
BTW, why the name "BackArrow"?

BTW, why the name "BackArrow"?
Uhmm.. Well when I was starting the project, I was wondering what name.. what name... I'm not so good with thinking names for things... o.O
Then I asked an online friend if he'd think of something.. He gave a few ideas and BackArrow sounded best of them to me.. so I took it. :p
He also did the BackArrow graphic on the BackArrow web page and did the basic html code and design for the page. I then cleaned it up quite a bit. Heh.
-dpb
Ps. The cvs code in BackArrow makes the menus from a config file now (just a little buggy still..) :p
Now I've been starting to make the toolbars to work the same way and after that gotta do some kinda macro language. Heh. =)

Just make sure nobody's using the name. Otherwise you'll end up changing to ForwardArrow, UpArrow, DownArrow....

(A quick search in Google seems to indicate that the name is safe to be used.)
I'll just need my very stupid ISP to answer why my modem doesn't work anymore with the ethernetcard-connected cable. (I don't know how to make Linux use the USB one).

Elcalen, the makers of Firefox probably all have 2GHz+ systems

I tried Firefox last week. It just seemed awfully *sluggish* compared with K-Mel.
I am sure hoping that the Beonex guy doesn't give up. It's a superb browser. He seemed to be encountering some roadblocks between him & the Mozilla folks -- not sure what the problem was/is. Does anyone know?

FF is reported to run quite fast on "bigger" systems.
& k-m.0.8.2 seem sluggish compared to k-m.0.2.1; bigger codebase I presume.
Beonex 0.8. stable, Navigator only install, seems almost as fast as k-m - if tweaked
for spead like we all do with k-m. Seems to have about as much RAM usage.
Beonex creator writes that his lower version number is due to less buggs
discovered in Beonex code. He also wants to keep the press coverage A 1. 0 would possibly get for a major breakthrough.Nothing else is known to me.
