It looks like the problem comes from a part of the the Gecko Rendering Engine that recent test builds use.
It seems to be a "feature" of chrome.dll that write manifest files and that K-Meleon will use because it helps to make installable extensions and localization easier :-(
Well, so far I found on my machine the bug is connected with that.
Version 1.3 has a harmless workaround for this mysterious bug.
It was only seen by some people, and seems to depend on the exact version you have downloaded. I was finally able to duplicate it when I downloaded 1.1RC.
The bug was not in microrss, it is part of the "layers" plugin or more likely its associated macros which you could verify by disabling layers, and a-phwang!, it would work.
Also, the .kmm and .manifest files have been added to the distribution.

I have been using microRSS version 1.3 with K-Meleon 1.1RC for several hours now . . . and . . . on my machine ( Windows XP Pro ) . . . microRSS is working flawlessly.
The .kmm file ( microrss.kmm ) is working well . . . works seemlessly, and, the installation instructions were very clear.
Thanks for the effort. I do prefer this version compared to "NewsFox" . . . and again . . . thanks for your efforts.
- I have added fr-FR locale to microRSS
- I have Modified microrss.kmm to add a toolbar button
- I have corrected a bug with encoding in feeds.xml
- I have made an Extension setup for microRSS and many other extensions.
Send me a mail, I'll send you the address to keep it.

The purpose of this version is to more or less to sync up what Alain is offering and what I am offering. There is no change to functionality, only documentation and installation.
I deleted the encoding attribute of the feeds.xml file as Alain suggested.
I added a somewhat automatic toolbar build to the .kmm file.
I removed references to older KMeleon versions from the install documentation.
If you want a more plug and play experience, go to Alain's site (above) and you can download an executable file that will install all. Also French and possibly other locales are available there.
Future plans for microrss are to make the feed download asynchronous as it currently locks even other KM windows when it updates the feed every 250 seconds. Unfortunately, I am still very busy and I don't know when that might be.
Thanks to those who downloaded or included uRSS in their distributions!
