quick, customizable search

This is a feature of Web Accessories for Internet Explorer 5.0 that I like, and miss with K-Meleon:

By simply adding registry values, one can search whichever sites they want
from the convenience of the address bar, like such:

example 1) At an IE address bar, type: av lizard
would return a search resulft from altavista.com, the search for the word lizard.
The registry settings needed for this are as follows:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\av]
@="http://www.altavista.digital.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&what=web&fmt=.&q=%s";
" "="+"
"#"="%23"
"&"="%26"
"?"="%3F"
"+"="%2B"
"="="%3D"

example 2) at the address bar: dictionary lizard
Once configured correctly, this would allow a search for "lizard" at dictionary.com. See how it could be useful to have quick acess to search engines besides netscape search?

The customizable search settings doesn't have to be in the registry, but this function seems to me very nice, not too hard to implement, and would seem to require very low system resources.

What do others think?
