 Autocomplete for forms

G'day all -

One of the things I really miss now I've ditched Opera and come over to K-Meleon is the rather wonderful "Wand". Some of you may know this is tied up with the password manager, but has a heap of fields which you could put almost anything into, and the Wand would see what you type into a form and attempt to pre-fill the field.

Actually, I don't want anything so cumbersome!!!! (well, not tied up with the Password manager, because I don't use and don't trust password managers.)

But, looking back thru these forums, in this 2001 thread, I see that "Autocomplete for forms is already in. Autocomplete for URLs can't be added yet, ..."

What I really want is a simple extension/macro/widget with about a dozen fields (possibly extendable?) which would be a database for auto-completing form fields. My feeling is that making it part of the browser core would be too much bloat -- which is what happened to Opera, Firefox, IE, Netscape...

Unfortunately, I have no programming skills these days: they disappeared with Fortran and Cobol. ¬_¬

Gordon

Hi disrupted -

Ummm... I already have the Autofill

Alas, I have several different usernames, and the autofill doesn't have places for them. I also have "other" info which is useful at times, and Autofill has no place for those either.

Besides, all autofill apps have the same problem: they look for fields with given identifiers, then chuck in whatever is labelled for that field. There's no flexibility. That's why I don't want an Auto-fill utility, but an Auto-complete utility. There is a difference.

Gordon.

Hi Gordon

You might want to try PhraseExpress. Not specific to K-Meleon, but rather light on resources, so you should not have trouble running it permanently in the background.

I for one am using the "HotStrings" module of the fantastic ac'tivAid utility to reach a similar result. But if you do not need a bunch of add-ons to Windows, I recommend PhraseExpress.

27February2011

Greetings.
I just started using K-Meleon today as my (portable - I really try to use only "install-free" software) browser on my XP laptops where I do NOT clear cookies/cache & etc at exit. I was using Chromium for that purpose.
With K-M I can put the cookies/cache & etc somewhere else other than my local c:\ drive ...

My opinion is that K-Meleon REALLY needs form memory like Firefox.
IE has it. Opera does not. Chromium has it.
I like & use Opera but find it the least user friendly»

Anyway, K-M autofiller.kmm seems interesting»
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/autofiller
and HIGHLY customizable. It seems one could almost completely customize/rewrite it if desired ...

The StoreFS macro which I wrote may provide you a method to enter data. The most recent version can retain fields over a restart of KM.
