I know that one can put in either URL or a search in the same bar, but it would nice to have the option of a separate search bar. Not only that, but have a Javascript that anticipates what you're typing and offers suggestions (to save on having to type in the whole thing before hitting search button). They have this in Firefox.
It's a waste of browser UI space IMO, but many still prefer the separation. 2 are available as extensions/kplugins.
The more complete is search bar plus a.k.a searchbar ext about 7 extensions down on the page. Try that one.

Thank-you, I tried out the Search Bar Plus, but while it does provide a separate search bar, it doesn't have the nice feature where it gives suggestions as you beginning to type.
It's more of a nicety, not a necessity. I can just go to Google's main page and it works there.
