Just like Google Chrome, K-meleon should have a button that updates automatically without uninstalling your current K-meleon browser.

There's already a kplugin which makes the job.
It searches for a new stable version, and download it or ask for downloading it.You have then to install

Don't forget that 1.6 and 1.7 are beta and aren't seen by the kplugin.

You can install K-Meleon 1.5.4 on top of an existing 1.5.x install.

But it is not recommended to do without backup.
