Do not need to go into preferences and restart the browser.

you mean like other browsers, when it detects it's not default and prompts to make itself default?
i think it's possible with autoit but it will not be part of kmeleon, you will need to make your kmeleon shortcut icon(startmenu or on desktop etc) point first to autoit script.. the script will then check if kmeleon is default and run kmeleon, elseif it will set the registry with the proper values (htp, html) for kmeleon and then run kmeleon.. is that ok?
