So this is the best 1.5 has been

because of how unstable k-melon has been in the past as far as showing the correct pictures and things on a page i was suprised that using 1.5 hasn't been so bad. Still issues but the latest stable release is much better but.... Anyway i don't want to go though all the stuff that i have in the past with other browsers but I'm trying google chrome and not sure about it. I like drop down bars. Can I download at a later time 1.6 beta and still run k-melon 1.5? If 1.6 is bad then i'm done with it for a while no big deal but i see that it is a upgrade and might want to try it? however i don't want to uninstall 1.5.I can't get an handle on how 1.6 is doing and i will not upgrade to firefox 4.0 unless i can use my addons.

It is easy to run multiple versions of KM. I currently have four versions running. My default browser is the 1.6.0 beta2 and I have no problems with it.

You can get the 7z file for it here: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/kmeleon16

To use simply go to your program files folder and make a new folder called 'KMeleon 16' and then extract the files in the 7z to that folder. Confirm that there is a file named 'profile.ini' in the folder and that it is empty. When you start kmeleon.exe your profile for that version will be created locally and not interfere with any other profile. You can then create a shortcut on your desktop to kmeleon.exe for ease of use.

Yes. Unlike some other browsers each K-Meleon version can be installed & started independently without such fuss as You have with e.g. Firefox (where You have to work around to start different versions).

Like said before, install 1.6beta2 in a new folder with an unique name.
That does the trick.

Cave if You use the installer. It offers to install on top of the previous install ( which would damage/overwrite Your K-Meleon 1.5.4 ) - change the install folder to say:

C:\program files\k-meleon1.6beta2.en-US\

It is best to install each version under its precise name when You want to test several versions.
The rest is unproblematic.

All K-Meleon versions 1.5.x and 1.6x can use the same profile folder without any trouble. I'd create a backup of the profiles before doing it, though. For this setup with shared profiles You only have to make sure that all the skins folders contain the same skins.

If You create/use independent profiles for the different versions (like suggested by JamesD, do not forget to grant writing privileges in/to K-Meleon folder with this setup).

For independent profiles You can create the desktop shortcuts like:

C:\.k-meleon1.6beta2.en-US\k-meleon.exe -new

C:\K-Meleon1.5.4en-US\k-meleon.exe -new

That lets You start/use both/multiple versions during the same time - if You want.

I run all 3+ on my PC, but you can only run only 1 type at one time.
I have a KMFILES kit for the browsers. It brings the life back to them
1.5 has never ran as fast on youtube!!!!

To get a profile in the KM program file, just before starting KM
Put an blank "profile.ini" file in the KM program files.
It will put the profile there.

I am also working on a beta KM 1.7
K-Meleon-1.7 db Beta2 !
Gecko 1.9.2.20 from Firefox 3.6.20

The 1.7 is not hard for you to update it your self.
Just replace the files mostly.

I know the History file does not work in the 1.7.
It's the FF3+ "places.sqlite" file that is messing everything up.
There is no real way to change it's location to fix the bug in KM.
KM needs a new History system to fix it, I think!

Anyway hope this helps.

...

command line option:
-new

allows running more than 1 instance at a time providing they use separate profiles.

ff 4 reached EOL in June. Better stay with 3.6 branch for a while or upgrade to ff 5.
