SpeedyFox for K-Meleon 1.6

There is a tool that boost the speed of Firefox with a single click.

Can this apply to K-Meleon?

Hi, chrismt,

do you really feel the need for that?

You can, if you really need it, speed K-M loading with the loader.exe.

Referring to "history": could that be made faster than in K-M? (I use the R/L and L/R mouse rocking gestures for back/forward - to beat that, the previous or next page would have to load before I even hit any button.)

About " Quicker operation with cookies", I know nothing.

Cheers

Hi Chrismt,

"How does it work?
Firefox (and sometimes it's add-ons) uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly."

K-Meleon doesn't (yet?), and that seems to be one of the reasons it's so much faster.
(By the way: would you trust a software that claims Firefox to be the fastest browser BY FAR?)

Cheers

Speedy Fox optimizes the SQLITE. I thought K-Meleon 1.6 uses SQLITE

Sorry about this

Chris

You could not know. The squlite files are present (but they are unused).

So far K-Meleon 1.6 items still uses the old system and files.
It has some pros - e.g. does not need Speedy Fox to compact sqlite data smiling smiley

Guenter,

I'm still uneducated when it comes to SQLite files in FireFox using the Gecko 1.9.xx engine. Below is what I've gotten so far.

FireFox uses sqlite for the following files:

content-prefs
cookies-prefs
downloads
formhistory
permissions
places
search
signons
urlclassifier3
webappsstore
place-sqlite-journal

Some of these files are integrated with each other, as in history and bookmarks. Others?

FormHistory I think (but am not sure) integrates with passwords?

Stories circulate about Firefox SQLite files increasing rapidly in size to 100s of Gigabytes. Some of this is probably due to the use of favicons and allowing FireFox to use its default settings which include checking with Google's Whitelist and Blacklist and I believe, checking in with Google's search dBase, (again not sure).

To have your history, passwords, cookies, searches intermingled (in ways I don't understand yet), seems like a privacy and/or security issue.

I can only go by what I see: Implemented by Dorian in the old way so far.

bookmarks.html, passwords (*.s) and history.dat.

sqlite format: cookies and permissions.
Preferences panel not yet working for cookies and permissions.
Totally up to him how he & kko want it. IMHO likely is to household with resources.
Which is the way many here like. smiling smiley

Guenter,

Don't know about permissions, but Cookie Culler works with SQLite in FF 3.5.8, so there is way there to control your cookies, so that is a good thing for KM 3.6 I think

Good to know that bookmakrs, passwords and history use the traditional format.

Since Dorian started to implement the old formats I assume...

that we will continue to use the old version Cookie Culler that cannot do sqlite grinning smiley

Guenter,

Yup, brain's definitely going soft. <aarrggghh>

If the old version of Cookie Culler continues to work, I'll be satisfied. (Even though I've turned off as much as can of SQLite in FF 3.5.8, I still see hard drive churn because of the dBase requirement to do constant writes.
