As of August 1st, we will discontinue support for the following browsers and their predecessors: Firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 7, and Safari 3. In these older browsers you may have trouble using certain features in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs and Google Sites, and eventually these apps may stop working entirely.

Beginning August 1, 2011, we’ll support the current and previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we’ll begin supporting that version and stop supporting the third-oldest version.

that doesnt make much sense, they say it's for html5 features and will stop supporting ff 3.5 but will continue to support ie8 which has no html5 support? if they will still support ie8 then they will have to support ff 3.5 and even 3.0.. sounds like a marketing propaganda to push users into updating which might not be completely necessary, naturally they will sniff you and cripple you out but doesn't mean your browser is incapable of running their apps, a move like that means they are all in it together..probably won't affect kmeleon 1.6 as long as you don't spoof as firefox

Fully agreed.
A hypocritical statement of Google, period.
Google also omits to mention Opera among modern browsers and they do it on purpose.
They have often sent garbage code to the Opera UA-string in the past boycotting Opera. Spoofing the UA to Fx fixed the issue.

disrupted,

Ever since your post, I've been looking for standalone html5 alternatives. This article has some interesting ideas on the whole issue of using browsers instead of plugins (like Flash) which are cross-platform.

Doesn't affect their search, right? That other salad is just side dishes. :-)

Just to bring this up-to-date, I've discovered Google Docs simply won't work on KM 1.6, but will work on IE6 -- not happily, not well, but at least showing content. It seems FF3.5 and derivatives like KM are the sole target...

Personally, why on earth would I want to support such blatant customer abuse by signing up for G.Docs?

Gordon.
