I did not get the free key so I installed Privatefirewall instead.

Panzer,

Did not even know this one existed, so I went to CNET and read their rating. No. 17 in firewalls according to their analysis. Need more reviews to get a true sense of its worth though.

At Matousec it's 6. among all firewalls, 2. in free version category. Outpost 2009 is only 8..

But yes, if Outpost gives out only firewall, I will probably switch back.

Panzer,

They keep hinting that they will eventually give out just the firewall. Having read the posts about the Security Suite, I notice that IF you already have an anti-virus program up and running when you install it, that it will automatically disable its anti-virus module.

Still not sure about using such a large suite though.

I will use PF until they release firewall-only.

Panzer,

Please let me know how it goes with PF... have yet to try it. Reason? I like Outpost free 2009 a lot, don't much care for Comodo which I used prior to that and going back Sygate and Kerio, but those are out-of-date for some time now.

OA I tried briefly, can't decide if I like or not. But to be fair, did not give it much time to impress. No real reason for not staying with it other than not used to it.

I am no expert but PF didn't gave me any headache at all (well, almost, it blocked conn at first try but I managed to fix that pretty fast). But I use internet connection only a couple of minutes per day ...

Ask Paul in freewares part 2. He just posted a link to new version of it ...

Panzer,

Well I waited around until they released Avast 5.1... So uninstalled Avast 4.8, Outpost 2009 Free firewall and installed Avast 5.1, followed by Outpost Security Suite Free. Very nice combo. By installing Avast first, when I installed Outpost, it recognized Avast and did not install its own anti-virus module, but it did install what appears to be a basic, but decent anti-spyware realtime module.

The combo of Avast and Outpost seems to be working well and I haven't (yet) seen any performance hit.

Really?

Effective October 1, 2010, Agnitum will no longer provide technical support or updates for all versions of Outpost Firewall Pro, Outpost Antivirus Pro, and Outpost Security Suite Pro older than v7.0.

I use Outpost free version 2009.

Btw, I am not a pro. I have no idea what to use. Look at this:

http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php

Only Comodo and Private Firewall are good and free.

Panzer,

Outpost just came out with 7.1 release of their new Security Suite. Switched to it from Outpost Free version 2009. A couple of points... I use the setting Block Most and made it do manual trust for both trusted and all other apps. Just installed it today, so still in testing (not trusting) mode! <g>
