As the Slax live distro has seen a stop in its
development, with kernel 2.6.27 in version 6.1.12 , and
is listed as "dormant" on the Distrowatch site, it
may be noteworthy for interested people, that a Slax fork
made by community members, with kernel 2.6.37, is
available now.
It's named Porteus (former Slax-Remix).

The live distro can be used from a USB stick of from a CD
to work in RAM. Note that it is easy to add a non-root user.
