K-Meleon icon not associated with htm/html files

Hi all

Let me first say I am very happy with K-Meleon. I used to be a FF lover but after version 3.* I gave up. Then tried Chrome and later Iron but none of them satisfied me, thank god I found K-Meleon since it runs the way I want a browser to run, great! But now my question, I ran the setup assistant and my htm/html files on my disc do open with K-Meleon but somehow my files are not shown with the K-Meleon icon but shown with a notepad icon. When I hold the cursor on one of those files it says Iron html document. Very strange since in file types it does show the K-Meleon icon. Does anybody have an idea what is going on here and how to solve it?
Thanks and please keep this community alive!

Brgds,

Erwin

it could be just the icons need to be refreshed to display properly or a registry conflict with iron associations.

if you click on the file and it opens with kmeleon normally..then it's probably just the icons.

download this samll tool:
http://kmext.sourceforge.net/tools/RefreshIconCache.zip

extract RefreshIconCache.exe anywhere you like and run it..it will delete your icon cache file so a new one can be rebuilt and the icons will be associated with the ugly green lizard.

if you double click on an html file and it doesn't open with kmeleon, then it's likely a reg conflict..run setdafult.exe again and associate km with htmls..also try using defaulter extension from enhancements page :
http://kmext.sourceforge.net/ext7.htm
(checks at startup if kmeleon is default browser and prompts to make it default)

desga2 did mention the correct place regarding a discussion of this problem.
Fortunately the solution is incredibly simple.
All you you have to do is download and install this extremely small utility
which is freeware http://www.pc-tools.net/files/win32/freeware/stbrws14.exe
Here is the website http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/setbrowser/
In my opinion the warnings are totally bogus.
All software warns that the maker will not be responsible for anything that happens.
I have actually used this hundreds of times in 8 years on Windows XP.
Never had a problem.

Here is how. After installing on Step 1 set to Netscape.
On Step 3 click Specify Location and go to K-Meleon.exe.
You are all done. smiling smiley

I ran the tools but still only got notepad icons on my htm/html files.
K-Meleon is my default browser and works fine but I want to get rid of those notepad icons since I can not see in one time which are my htm/html files and which are the txt files etc. Any other ideas?

I can't say that I know what's going on but you could try running FileTypesMan, it might work better than Windows file types.

I have had this problem, and not specially for html files. Probably a Windows problem.

To solve it:

Regedit > search HKCR\K-Meleon.HTML\DefaultIcon > Edit default, you must have something like that:

C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\K-Meleon.exe,1

@ disrupted

Thank you for posting about [http://kmext.sourceforge.net/ext7.htm]. It has some nice extensions. I was not aware the pages existed, I really need to get out more.:cool::mad:_sad smileysmiling smileygrinning smiley:Otongue sticking out smiley:s

BTW, have you any idea why the sleepy smily (?_?) is not workin? The other smilies seem to be working fine.

I had the same problem before I found how to fix it.

Here is the windowsxp solution:

1. Go to controlpanel

2. Open add or/and remove program

3. And on your left side you should have four choices, choose the bottom one.

4. Then you should see three downpoint arrows with a sentence in the window

5. Choose the bottom arrow and there you can make k-meleon default html or htm.

The End....

And there you have it.
