K-Meleon UNOFFICIAL update to Gecko 1.8.1.19. (From Seamonkey 1.1.14)
Tested in K-Meleon 1.5.x but I think this patch work in all K-Meleon versions 1.1.x, and possibly 1.x, Gecko is Gecko, yes it's?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make a K-Meleon folder backup before to test this update.
This patch had some problems to download files (K-Meleon crash).
I fixed the problem now patch work fine.
How to fix this problem in futures updates?
File source of the problem is Seamonkey's xpcom_core.dll.
This file isn't longer compatible with K-Meleon.
I replaced xpcom*.dll files (xpcom_core.dll, xpcom_compat.dll, xpcom.dll) in main K-Meleon folder for same files from Dorian's build 1.5.2RC2 (Gecko 1.8.1.18)
I replaced all xpcom*.dll files because this will prevent future problems by incompatible versions between xpcom files. (In my tests worked only replaced xpcom_core.dll by Dorian's last version build file)
(I think this problem is caused by different VC++ versions used for build, Seamonkey used VC++ 6, but Dorian used VC++ 7.1)

Desga2, thanks a lot. Used 7zip to decompress the .exe and copied the files by hand)
Works like a charm. No bugs so far. Thank you!
It is not specific to Your patch - I used Fred's update files.
I do not think it is needed that I check with Your files.
The K-Meleons I have updated are mainly for banking.
Sorry I did not bookmarks any URLs - just started another k-m.
Several other versions are installed and in their original condition.
It can be a setting causes it if it is combined with SeaMonkey files.
It is possibly depending on the values in mimeTypes.rdf.
I updated a 1.1.4 with newest GRE and a 1.5.1 -> 1.5.2 -> then newest GRE

Yes, it's possible that the problem is mimeTypes definition.
I tested in default config (without any old mimeTypes "Edit -> MIME Types" defined) but with plugins files mimeTypes in Preferences (F2) -> Browsing -> File Handling (new mimeTypes).
Files i tested to download were .exe files.
exe & pdf for me. But not always. So I fear I can not show a way to reproduce.
My link to reproduce: I could not download a replacement if I had had only this K-Meleon.
Another case that seems possibly related - but is not identical.
Quote ancientuser's mail "The solution was to remove the PDF file type totally from preferences. I had set for PDF \"Save to disk\". When I removed the setting altogether, the print button opened the dialog."]

I tried again with your test link and download work fine. (It takes a little time to start, usual in SourceForge downloads, this depends of download mirror server)
Only I noted that the first time that I downloaded this file download dialog was usual (with progress bar and download speed and size values), but seconds downloads download dialog is showed as this image:
I guess this is for file are in cache and really isn't downloaded from website because no time to download, this is an instantly.
@ kko: Do you remmember that I noted this K-Meleon icon was over "Downloading..." title text in download dialog and I added some spaces in front of title text string in spanish (es-ES) K-Meleon version?
This also happend in en-US version, in all 1.5.x versions in all languages I think.
I used desga's unofficial package and had the same problem. After about 10 sec. the download starts but mostly K-Meleon crashes.
So I copied the needed files from 1.5.2 RC2 and everything works fine. Than I updated my K-Meleon once again with desga's exe and now the download problem doesn't happen. I tried many times - every download succeeds. Weird .

I'm doing a lot of test of my patch with different K-Meleon version and languages.
I can reproduce this problem with next steps:
1) Install my patch update.
2) Open K-Meleon and download guenter's before links to test downloads.
3) All downloads tried ended fine.
4) Close K-Meleon. (K-Meleon closed is right)
5) Open K-Meleon and download files again.
6) K-Meleon crash or not download in a lot of time or show same guenter's download dialog but download not progress. Some times I can cancel download in download dialog but any url is loaded after it (showed blanks pages and loading throbber).
In this last case K-Meleon crash when is closed.
I think that something is changed in K-Meleon prefs when first K-Meleon closed and this produces the error.
I'll continued test to detect the wrong file in this update.
Are you sure?
Can you paste all about user agent string line?
I think you are using Firefox 2.0.x or Seamonkey 1.1.x override instead default K-Meleon user agent string. Tools -> User Agent -> Default.
