New K-M 1.5.1

Thank you Dorian, kko, and others for the upgrade. While you modestly said it only corrected a few bugs, 1.5.1 seems to be on steroids. It is pretty fast. Again, thanks for your hard work.

Finally. The new version has been released! Many thanks to kko. Without his help the polish version wouldn't be possible. Danke schön, Klaus!

@Terry

I didn't notice any speed difference between 1.5 and 1.5.1 version.

there used to be chinese and italian for previous versions.. why hasn't it been continued to 1.5? with those 2 and addition of perhaps greek, portugese and japanese and k-meleon will be pretty much covered when it comes to locales.. that'd really be swell!

p.s. i once ran into this japanese k-meleon help site..
http://www.geo(antiantispam)cities.jp/eibunjimuin/comp-memo/k-meleon.html
perhaps one of the developers can contact the author and persuade them into a japanese translation

EDIT: and indian too.. it's an important language, many indians come to this thread:
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,70604
maybe gunter should jump the next one who posts there

As Matt can tell us a translation takes long and is hard work ( I thank him - & I will advertize his browser translation with my few Polish friends here smiling smiley )

So the improvements of 1.5 may not warrant the redo from 1.1.6 in they eyes of a translator. The last I read in this Forum - 2 Chinese versions might be in progress. No info about other languages/translations going on.

It is up to the Native users to translate.

Indians interested in IT usually speak English. I doubt they will go through the hard work needed for a translation. Many languages are spoken on the subcontenent.

I asked when I saw several IP from the same region.

@ Dorian

First thanks for the new version. Minor but worth mentioning, when you right click on the back arrow, there is no longer a drop down list of prior pages viewed and what happened to the "no script button" (I know you can toggle it off/on with f7 key) but for some of us it is easier to just click a button to do it :-)

@Dorian

Solved the "no script" button question.

Zoohooter

How did you upgrade to 1.5.1? As I still have the dropdown list with a right click.

(I upgraded by installing 1.5.1 to a new sub-folder, then used a two pane file manager to copy over new files from 1.5.1 to my 1.5 folders and maintained the old profile information there. xpti and compreg I deleted routinely.

@odeborg

I created a separate folder for this one and started fresh, while maintaining my 1.50 folder under the Program Files Directory. I like to do it this way, just to see if there are any kinks. I transfer additions like, bookmarks, shell additions, etc. when I think everything is okay with the new version. I did rearrange the Toolbar to my liking, but that was it. I'll try starting over again, maybe I screwed something up the first time ????

@ndeborg,

just curious, what files did you transfer over to your 1.5?

Zoohooter,

I used Total Commander and checked file dates and sizes. Those that were the same I left alone, the rest I copied over. Before running kM 1.5.1 I made sure to delete compreg and xpti. There is a post here somewhere that tells you which folders are usually changed and which are not.

I use profile.ini to keep all my information inside the program's folder structure.

I did it all over again and everything is A okay now :-). But I did just the opposite of what you do, I transferred all of my changes to 1.5 over to the 1.5.1.

Thanks for the replies.

Ich könnte ein Lied davon singen, guenter winking smiley. I advertise the translation on some polish forums, too.

I think a Dutch translation will be released soon (marco11 wrote about that in this thread http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?2,82432).

I'd like to echo Terry's congratulations to Dorian, kko, and everyone else who contributed to making KM so good.

Like Terry, I also find vs. 1.5.1 to be noticeably faster on a USB stick and on a USB hard drive than vs. 1.5 IMHO, no other browser comes close to KM 1.5.1 on speed, size, usability, and flexibility.

Cheers!

Zoohooter,

The end result is the same. You moved your profile info (yes?) over from 1.5 to 1.5.1. I kept 1.5 and copied over new files from 1.5.1, but kept the 1.5 profile.

I think it is the profile where problems come up. One of the reasons why I like to use the ini file and keep everything about KM inside its program file location.
