It's always a pleasure to hear back from you, you always carry good news with yourself.
It's a bit annoying needing to perform two updates to install K-Meleon (1.1.2 and 1.8.1.8 patch), but of course is much better than keeping the old GRE.
Maybe it's time for a full GRE 1.8.1.8 K-Meleon release? Maybe a full K-Meleon 1.1.3 with installer?
I can make a single installer/updater if people want me to... Can someone point me to the location of K-Meleon 1.1.2's NSIS build file (has a .nsi extension)?
If it is a easy job for You to accoplish. It helps perhaps to share the work between more helpers. You could perhaps update without occupying time of devs whose time is too valuable for a routine job.
K-Meleon does not really need all GRE updates because it is often not effected - but it is a free advertisement to have all GRE updates
Some PPL need GRE updates because they do more security sensitive things - and would like max. achievable security standards. If we had a chance an extra update that is technically not urgent enough for Dorian's time would give them a better feeling ;)
Yes; You can use components from the full installer, the makers may know better solutions - or do a update package soon?
Create a backup before You do anything (as always ).
You may want to pack the files? Files for portables are treeted with upx a exe and dll packer to get less size; this not needed; it is a relic from the past when USB-sticks were small and expensive
Needed files: You use all dll and xpt in ./components (delete ./components/compreg.dat and xpti.dat)
plus all dll in root folder where K-Meleon.exe is.
Exception: xpcom_core.dll must come from a compilation that is made with version 6 of MS C+ compiler - You can probably continue to use the one present in Your 1.12.
I have updated Pocket Kmeleon spanish version to gecko 1.8.1.8 sucessful.
Menus are still in spanish, when I expected them in english
I read Maria instructions and I updated it manually copying the new folders and the files to the Pocket Kmeleon directory as she said.
Everything works fine.
Thank you all.
I tried to update my K-Meleon 1.1.2 to the 1.1.2a version. I used the update program and also the full install program. In both cases, K-Meleon now reads as 1.1.2a but the Gecko still says (rv:1.8.1) and (Gecko/20061010), the same as before. So I am not sure if the GRE really updated or not.
Larry,
You must have your user agent set to default to see the updated GRE. If you have it set to spoof as Firefox, it will give you the message you are describing.
This is still a mystery. As Jmike suggested, I set the user agent to default. Seperately, I also did a totally fresh full install into a new folder. In both cases, it says that the GRE is 1.8.1.6.
I still can't seem to get the GRE of 1.8.1.8 that Brie Bruns was working on.
Thus, I failed the Scanit test. The test said K-Meleon would have passed with the GRE of 1.8.1.8 but that K-Meleon 1.1.2a is still only 1.8.1.6
It is still a fine browser. Appreciate everyone's work. Just confused what happened to the GRE of 1.8.1.8
I don't know what are the files for the version, but using the first file of this post my version changed automatically to:
bla (bla bla, rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071013 K-Meleon/1.1.2
I did "manually" [the copy of the files] because I wanted to check them before applying but, anyway, check that after the install, if it's not correctly done, that the xpti.dat and compreg.dat from the components folder are deleted (I think is the help of the website too). And have closed K-meleon ;)
