Newbie to Kmeleon here. I thought all versions of K-meleon were supposed
to have the favorites function. Mine is the one from the download page
with the update added. In the plugins section the IE Favorites Plugin
is turned on. Bookmarks and Hotlist are turned on and those show at
upper left of browser. A picture on a website shows Favorites to be
between those. But Favorites does not exist on mine. I show numerous
forum listings telling about Favorites problems but could not understand
them. Can someone offer a simple explanation for me to have the Favorites
function. I thank you.
Try Edit-Advanced Preferences then click on IE Favorites under K-Meleon Plugins and put a check mark in Enable support for Internet Explorer. Close down K-Meleon. Start it up again; Favorites should appear as a menu choice.
Just as a test, you might try setting bookmarks and hotlist off and see if KM will then show favorites. Just to see if there is any conflict between any of the three.
Thanks desga2 but I have already tried several profiles. Then just deleted the
profile folder and started over. Also tried reinstalling KM. I am using
Windows XP with service pack 2. K-Meleon is 1.1.2 with GRE of 1.8.1.6.
Thank you everyone for additional help
I will try some more new profiles anyway. Maybe I will get lucky.
Have you tried keyboard shortcut to favorites? That is ALT A.
What skin are you using? I use Klassic but it is not supposed to make a difference.
I see a text menu Favorites and a memu bar item that is a briefcase. I assume that you are not see either one on your setup?
This is not supposed to make a difference but I did not use the installer to set up my KM. I got the 7z file and after unpacking KM, I put a profile.ini file in the KM folder before I ran KM the first time so it would put my profile with the program files. Then I did the update.
I don't really know if any of this can make any difference. Hope you can get it working.
I have ie6. The toolbar does sort of work. Having a button on it to open
Favorites has a very strange effect. Click the button and it just opens
a very thin line. This line is not right. It is too thin to read anything
on it. But if you scroll through it when stopping at folders the
Favorites in those show normally. So there is really no way to get to
the Favorites except for those in folders. Also adding to Favorites
with this thin line is a real pain.
And yes the path is correct. It is
C:\Documents and Settings\myprofile\Favorites\
At least that should be correct. It is where everything else obtains the
Favorites such as my Favorites Viewer.
Hope to have the answer to the problems stated here. I have had K-Meleon Favorites
problems for years. Finally found the solution at least for XP. In my case on all
my computers K-Meleon will not accept more than 46 Favorites folders. It does not
have problems with me creating more subfolders. But when I create just 47 folders
my Favorites plugin will disable. I have never had any success dealing with the
problem by deleting individual Favorites. Sure hope this helps many of you.
Sorry guenter2 for not making my post adequately clear. More than 2 years now there
have been literally around a dozen threads devoted to this topic. Many users
especially those running XP have had their Favorites plugin deactivated. This
apparently happens after adding more than 46 folders. It cannot be reactivated
without removing enough folders to drop the number down to 46 or less. I have
experimented with this extensively on many computers and have found no other cure.
If someone knows of others please do not hesitate to post. So would this be called
a bug?
P.S. Are you related to the other Guenter? I know. None of my business. Just curious.
Sorry, but the suggested fix does not totally solve my problem. It is true that my
K-Meleon also limits the number of folders I may have. But it also limits me to
a maximum of 1069 total Favorites. At 1070 the Favorites plugin will be disabled
everytime. This may seem like a lot of Favorites but is not given how many people
store Favorites on here. Does sound like a bug to me.
Does seem as if the Windows XP Favorites problem for most users is in the number
of Favorites. This also seems to vary from one computer to the next. My computer
has literally thousands of Favorites in one profile. Here is how I solved my
problem. I simply installed Windows XP Service Pack 3. It is a beta version
but is totally stable. It can be downloaded from many sources including this
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-service-pack-3.html
Please let me know how this works out.
