Forgot to say previously: I can't seem to add new bookmarks in beta 7, applies to RC0 as well.

I chose to only install the IE Favorites plugin for bookmarking, but it also installed (enabled) the Netscape Bookmarks plugin as well. It's not a big issue or anything, just a minor glitch.

Instead I have a far bigger problem. MetaSearch only returms Gigablast results.
Can anyone help here??

Sorry, I was not saying Brians problem was not important. Just that getting only one
search engine to function on MetaSearch is a bigger problem to me.

If it crashs only on W98 the solution is simple. Use the old bmpmenu plugin; it will just leak whenever you edit your bookmarks. Not a big deal unless you edit often and have a lot of them. In that case just don't use it because I'm not going to fix it.

A better option would be to supply the code, any chance of that? I know 98 is old news but there seems to be a few folks that us it on thier main PC's and others that use it as a secondary. If the code was public bugs could be better handled.. just my two cents.

Ahhh. O.K. You'll document your decision in the read me file of course and include an old version of bmpmenu plugin for those of us who are OS challenged?

ndebord - i guess: Dorian knows what can be done in limited work time.
We must ask Brian or Andrew to update install FAQ Docu in Wiki.
- or You ? You are fluent with English - and win98 user, and know all ropes
that the ppl-users that do not come to Forum do not know.
Next we must place the alternative file(s) for win98 at an easy to find place.
maybe also a package that includes system files for win95, NT4 ... users?
Bookmarks file was always leaky and even buggy with data loss. It is improved much.
So additional fix is not real vital. & Maybe Subgenius or someone can fix leak later. The nr. of 98 users is statistically low. Rome was not build in one day.
We always lived with our work arounds & Even a leaking k-m is a lean browser : )

@ Guenter The nr. of 98 users is statistically low
It is not a big thing to argue about. But I have often heard that there were so many
copies of Win 98 and Win 98 Se sold that they still far outnumber all others. And
that does agree with the thread here called What you Use.

Guenter,
G>> We must ask Brian or Andrew to update install FAQ Docu in Wiki. - or You ? You are fluent with English - and win98 user, and know all ropes that the ppl-users that do not come to Forum do not know.>>
I am always willing to do work on the Wiki. My sole reservation about doing stuff there is not being able to have my decisions checked by other people to make sure I'm actually doing the right thing or not.
G>> Next we must place the alternative file(s) for win98 at an easy to find place. maybe also a package that includes system files for win95, NT4 ... users?
That sounds like a good plan, unless there is a way to include them in the actual distribution with an explanation and perhaps an extension that identifies them. One possible example would be <bmpmenu.w98> for the bmpmenu.dll file. The FAQ or read me file would then say to rename the bmpmenu.298 file to bmpmenu.dll file. This is not to say that my idea is the way to go on this, just that it is one possible workaround.
G>> Bookmarks file was always leaky and even buggy with data loss. It is improved much. So additional fix is not real vital. & Maybe Subgenius or someone can fix leak later. One of the reasons why K-Meleon has been so successful is its claim to be the fast, low resource browser. Windows 9x users have been beneficiaries of that claim.

Dobb - yes probably more 98 around than statistiks tell us. And a fast system if You are not using too many programs at the same time; only handicap is its poor memory management (shares that with all DOS based win32).
ndebord - i totally agree - same here - i prefer it checked.
& I would not even touch the wiki because i fear to break it.
for the dll: someone that has bought the compiler must/can officially distribute them.
including them in the general issue makes download bigger
- so placing it adjacent in download area would be an alternative?
Best call it "upgrade package for win 98" ... ; )

Dorian,
I just noticed that the SearchSync macro problem still seems to exist. I know this can easily be corrected on my own, but I thought it'd be a good idea for you to fix it. If you don't recall what I speak of, read this thread:

Major problem with the ImagInfo macros.
If you right-click an image that's used multiple times on the same page, then click "Image Properties..." you get an alert for every instance that image occurs.
Here's an example page:
http://www.sover.net/~wysiwygx/Graphics.html
Right-click the "Spy" image name = comp01.gif, then click "Image Properties..."
You'll get one alert after another, for every instance of the image.

That should be "ImageInfo macros", not "ImagInfo macros".

Never mind, just go to Advanced prefs and set Favorites on and turn off Netscape bookmarks... I can live with that! Just have to get used to using Ctrl A again! LOL!
Still crashes when closing with only one layer open...

Or legacy files for windows 98 users? Or, just as a point of information. Do we know exactly how many dlls we are talking about that are legacy for W98? If it is only one or two, I don't think that would make for a huge increase in the distribution size.

Just a small observation. This release candidate based on the newer Gecko seems to run faster and with even less glitches that KMSM 1.0b7.

Sorry fellows, this is my fault, not Dorian's. Here's a workaround:
ImageInfo{
$JSdoitImg="var l=getAttribute('longdesc'),s='"._("Image Properties")."\\n\\n"._("URL:").\\t."'+unescape(src)+'\\n"._("Size:\\t%W x %H Pixels")."'.replace(/%W/,width).replace(/%H/,height);if(alt)s+='\\n"._("Alt. Text:\\t")."'+alt;if(l){s+='\\n\\n"._("A description is available for this image. Do you want to view it?")."';if(confirm(s)){if(top.location==self.location)open(l);top.location.href=l}}else alert(s);j=i.length"; &hndlImg;
}
Note, that this will display the properties of the first instance of the image. This may not be the instance you clicked on! There is no better solution as long as I only have $ImageURL to identify an image (i.e. as long as I can't truely determine the focused image).
@CaptnBlack: Thank you for reporting!

After reading the posts here about problems with the bookmark plugin on win98 I decided to switch to the Opera hotlist plugin. I would like to use the opera6.adr file in my Opera profile dir instead of creating a new one in my KM profile dir, but how?
I am using the following lines in my prefs.js:
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.menuFolder", "c:\\program files\\opera\\profile\\");
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.newitemFolder", "c:\\program files\\opera\\profile\\");
-- I guess that's what I was supposed to do?
Also, I am having some trouble with opening my last session using ctrl+alt+L. Right now I only have this forum page open. If I go to the hotlist XUL options page, and then close it, and then close KM, when I ctrl+alt+l to get this page back, it will only open the hotlist setup instead of this page.

Open Edit > Preferences. Select Plugins > Opera Hotlist Plugin and press Configure... The plugin dialog appears. Locate your hotlist file there in your Opera profile.
I am using the following lines in my prefs.js:
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.menuFolder", "c:\\program files\\opera\\profile\\");
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.newitemFolder", "c:\\program files\\opera\\profile\\");

No. Use Advanced Preferences to set these folders. You have to specify the name of a folder INSIDE your hotlist - not a file system folder!

Has anyone else experienced this, too? It drives me crazy, yet I haven't found working repro-steps. The link doesn't load, but a different K-M window appears in front of the current one.
BTW: A bookmark just opened in the wrong window, too (w/ the bookmarks plugin from beta 6).
