g00gle-prefetching

hi folks,

I noticed that when using g00gle as search-engine it is prefetching sites (at the moment only the one at the top) in the background, while presenting the results.
I did find this out cause my firewall asked me if I want to allow java-script for these sites and wondered whats going on...

If you see this as a nice feature, close this thread an go on.
If you are on a 56k-connection or you don't like this behavior (like me) there are 2 possibilities for you:

1. Type about:config in your url-bar and search for the line:

'network.prefetch-next'

and change its value to false.

or

2. goto -> edit -> preferences -> configs -> user.js

and add

user_pref("network.prefetch-next", false);

Here's one suggestion of controlling it.

Have an option so that the browser prefetch only the specified URL, and don't prefetch any other URLs linked by that specified URL. At least you can get the base page quickly and delay the downloading all the images, css, js until you actually visit it.

It was on Slashdot:
http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/31/132236&tid=217&tid=154&tid=218

This is a nasty thing, everybody should disable prefetching. Future versions of K-Meleon should have it disabled by default.

@_ , like with other things - such as Trident plugin
- good if we (i) have imidate control

- if not - scrap and i agree => bad thing. greetz

p. s. - we should have our own opinion based on our own little browsers capabilities

little= lesss well known in deatil to broder public - also see Carson`s fools day´s jest.
