Any way to avoid TLD redirection of Google search?
Date: November 21, 2014 02:22PM
It worked fine until lately.
Although the search string specifies .com, I get redirected to .de.
It's not K-Meleon specific. I get the same frigging redirection in Opera Presto and Firefox too.
For whatever reason, Google doesn't respect the TLD specified in the search string anymore.
Wonder if there's a decent workaround by modifying the search string for Google?

Reset intl.accept_languages so that it lists only English en-US, en.
In the past it was sufficient to move German down behind English.
If You only want to avoid the long wait change/edit Your search request so that it leads You immidialtely go to google.de.
Greetings to Germany

I do not know if it is the search string or not. I rather think that it is geolocation or ip related. I am in the USA and I got google.com when I searched.
I know little about proxy servers, but maybe using a proxy located in an area where google goes with .com might work. This is just a guess.
I see that Guenter posted while I was typing. His answer is likely better.

Not that I'm aware of, beyond a proxy, as the base for it is more on their IP databases than on language.
Try, for example, anonoymouse, and you'll see:
http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www_de.cgi/http://www.google.com
This was for @guenter:
You can put, as I did, ja (japanese) and you will se .de but in japanese. Nothing else.

@Günter
That's allready set to en-US.
The assholes are redirecting because of my IP address.
They are trying to force cookies on the user in order to avoid redirection.

guenter had a good start on You and already tested moving accept language down. Which helped in the past. But it seems Your's is the generally correct answer.
The best answer is probably complain to google.
Since my fist attempt (with English only) succeded - I was sent to google.com got answers and was relocated to Germany while I complained. And my solution worked only once. Guess it is additionally IP or cookies like You say.
I imagine an expatriate that knows almost no German using google.com in a public place wifi or so. He will get a nice time between a rock and a hard place by his compatriots at google.
p.s. at the bottom-right of the google page is link where You can change to google.com. A rather cludgy solution since it does not stick.
You can edit Your Google+ settings to use
http://www.google.de/preferences?hl=en
After that it showed results at
http://www.google.com/search?client=kmeleon&num=100&q=JamesD
but reverted to
https://www.google.de/search?client=kmeleon&num=100&q=JamesD&gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=qFtvVLDFCYuxPLm2gfAI after a while. Like in my first try.

Hmmm, after more tests it seems that anonymouse.org isn't happy about my new search string for Google. They asked me to fill a captcha before continuing.
- Shit-

It doesn't stick because Google wants you to subscribe if you want an option that sticks.
Besides, I'm afraid that the old search string is outdated:
http://www.google.com/search?client=kmeleon&num=100&q=
It will bring up anything except 100 results :|

I said, try, not use. Proxies, even web based as that, filter to X number of queries.
Further testings. Use this:
https://www.google.com/search?
prefdom=US&q=[your query here]
EDIT 2:That, and session cookies enabled.
I'd probably use myself as I most of my search are in english and .com show results more... at my tastes. Even I don't use much more Google since six months or so.

1.) Schiet, Driet.
2.) Right, it sticks when You use Your google+.
3.) Yes. Not 100 but more than the other.
4.) To get google page use
http://www.google.com/ncr (
no country redirect)
But JohnH already posted a better solution. I have not yet found out and tested the rest of the strings that play well with ./ncr.
p.s. For some reason I cannot edit the search.xml at the moment. Weird. The last thing I did before this. I tried to use google.com's IP in the search string. :s
Guess I better delete the file.
p.p.s. Can someone test whether these work only for me?
https://www.google.com/search?client=kmeleon&num=100&prefdom=US&q= some more results
https://www.google.com/search?client=kmeleon&prefdom=US&q=
https://www.google.com/search?mode=ncr&client=kmeleon&q= Google+
https://www.google.com/search?ncr&client=kmeleon&q=

a. It doesn't work with cookies disabled.
b. Google's home isn't exactly a convenient search string.
None of them works for me with cookies disabled. Didn't test with cookies enabled.

Thank You.
I tested with Google cookies deleted. So that it offered to logg into my G+ account.
But if they do not work generally they are no good.

Many thanks Disrupted!
Bypassing the DNS-lookup solved the problem.

The ncr slug can be used alone to set a cookie, but it can also be used as an argument within the search query.
The following is a non-redirecting search query:
https://www.google.com/search?q=example&ncr=1
Just change the default Google search query in K-Meleon into this (or add the ncr argument to any other arguments you have in there) and you'll be fine.

Nope, doesn't:
just clicking that link brings up "google.de" again.
They keep insisting to force their tracking cookies on everyone or won't let you in.

What do we hate, Siria?
Yep, cookies.
The thing I just tested is that you can search, with different google domains and with different results for each with cookies blocked.
When you type google.com, it redirects to your country specific.
But, if you visit google.com once with the url
https://www.google.com/ncr accepting cookies, at least for session, no more, then doesn't redirect for future searches.
Performing a search with the parameter ncr=1 does not set the preferences cookies.
Options:
- set www.google.com (that is only the search engine) to allow cookies permanently (the PREF cookie is then stored and modified each time you visit it)
- set www.google.com to allow session cookies, which requires to visit the
https://www.google.com/ncr url first for each browser session before perform a search, as there is the need to recreate the PREF cookie and it is only set by that url.

Google is my default search engine in 3 browsers (K-Meleon, FirefoxESR and Opera Presto).
To avoid TLD redirection there is no need to allow cookies at all. At least that's how it works for me. I never allow cookies for Google.
The below is the search string I'm using in K-Meleon for Google US.
Google US - 100 results, no suggestions:
https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&num=100&suggon=0&as_qdr=all&q=
