There is a MKV file download link. I want to open this link with mplayer directly, and KM don't download it just send the url to mplayer.
How to do this?
Thank KM74 developers.

If don't work too with Firefox, probably because the website don't affect the good type to the link.

No sure ...

The way to bypass this is to create and set an entry in mimetypes.rdf.
Possible to do that using K-Meleon 1.54, and to put the file in the profile folder of K-Meleon 1.74

There is a MKV file download link.

It's not a normal "link", but some hard to catch script created result like youtube vids - or is it?? Because if it's a LINK, you could just right-click and "Save Target As..."

But the popup dialog displayed that was a MKV file....
and I can do this easily with Opera, just edit MIME TYPE.

The mimetypes are in menu Edit > Mimetypes > (Tab) By Type
And Help > About plugins has some lists, but personally I'm just a normal user and not familiar with that type stuff. Others can respond better.

Yes. Exactly and like Firefox and SeaMonkey.

That is why alain (jujuland) desribed how You can do it. But You did not read/do it.

p.s. K-Meleon used to have a true mimetypes editor that nobody ever needed/used. So it was abadoned by its creator/maintainers (me, alain, kko) and it is not included anymore.

That is the same lame editor that comes from Firefox and is also used in SeaMonkey now. It cannot add new types and was not updated since kko who added it to K-Meleon is gone. So it does not know some new types that were not common when it was last updated.

I quote from this old thread that has a true editor, that can add, attached. It may still work.

The mimetypes editor is not yet integrated in the 1.9 browser chrome.

A stand alone MimeTypes editor will probably never be included in K-Meleon 1.6 versions by default. Mtypes version 0.3 was made up from Mozilla 1.7.12 code for K-Meleon 0.9.12. It was later updated (by alain & kko) but it does not play well with the mime types editor shipped in K-Meleon Prefs.
As a result kko and I have decided to abandon it.

When the move to GRE 1.9 started, Mtypes was also found incompatible.

p.s. Any person that wants can feel free to take & fix Mtypes.

      chrome:displayName="K-Meleon 1.0 Mimetype Editor 0.5.1"
chrome:author="Based on Mozilla 1.7.12 code,Inspired by Jordan Callicoat, guenter"

is abandonware.

But I do not give support for this or the vintage K-Meleon 0.9.12 - 1.5.4 Mtypes editor.

ok. So You can only use 1.5.4's editor as jujuland suggested.

Else do it via aboutconfig and have a look what this trio does.

browser.helperApps.alwaysAsk.force
browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile
browser.helperApps.neverAsk.saveToDisk

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries

For further details You can also use forum search all times. That will guide You to answers that were given before the first mimetypes editor was created.

E.g. to this German post by some guenter in 2005:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,26397,26457#msg-26457

user_pref("browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile", "audio/x-m3u, audio/x-mp3, audio/x-mpegurl, audio/x-scpls, audio/scpls, audio/mp3, audio/m3u, audio/pl, audio/x-pn-windows-pcm, video/x-ms-wmv, application/vnd.rn-mplayer2");

AFAIR. It will open the mentioned mime types in the system default player for the mimetypes.

The addon that does not work for You ships a file called mimeType.html. It will provide MimeType info not only for editing with the addon but also for editing via about:config.

The mimetype editor in 74 is broken and always empty, but looks like nobody noticed it.

WFM. You must use a legacy KM. SVP upgrade to 74.0 release German by Dorian. grinning smiley

Serious. If You have the problem with the empty pane several users will have it also. And if nobody complained it is rarely used. kko and I discussed it years ago. That is why the original Mtypes editor was dicontinued.

BTW. The MimeTypes Editor I posted does not show any type (empty pane like You described) but can add mimetypes to mimetypes.rtf. I tested it by adding a mimetype that exists to a well filled mimetypes.rtf. It complained "already exists". You only have to place the chrome properly into ./browser/omni.ja. But it would still need an update.

The editor in the pref panel cannot add new types and some that have popular since it was created are not there...

Yes, it is already fixed, it will be in next 1.8 package.

Why does it work in my 74.0?:s

Anyway. Can You/did You add the few new types that are in SeaMonkey/Firefox selection?
