I just noticed that FileHippo has K-Meleon 74.0 available to download as of 29 Sep 2014. First time I saw a KM version mentioned on that popular site.

If this was already mentioned somewhere, I missed it.

The only problem I see with some sites is that they list K-Meleon as being OK with all versions of Windows or "Windows All".

I see in another post this was stated - Windows XP SP2 and later.

Yes. Many think K-Meleon is a Firefox clone and clones are based on code completely developed by Mozilla. Clones are just rebranded Firefox'.

But K-Meleon's idea (dedicated breowser but no Netscape suite based on the Mozilla engine and using operating native widgets for skinable GUI... plus more) and first version are much older than Firefox (only dedicated browser but trans operating system, but slower XUL based interface / GUI...).

This is off topic but I don't want to open a new thread for such a simple question:
Where is the exact Firefox ESR version, K-Meleon is based on, shown?
Is it the "platform.ini"?

Yes. Funnily the UA shows something different, but they say that's a gecko bug. But platform.ini should be the real one.

Wir hinken schon wieder 2 Versionen dahinter. Das ist kein Vorwurf (ich kenne ja die Umstände), bloß eine traurige Feststellung.
So sehr ich diesen Browser auch mag (und auch benutze), mit reinem Gewissen weiterempfehlen kann ich ihn trotzdem nicht.

Kenn mich ja nicht aus mit Mozillas immer rasanterem Versionskarussell, aber Dorian hat vor ein paar Tagen schon eine Testversion mit ESR31 gepostet.

Abgesehen vom rasanten Versionskarussell bei FF wurden in den letzten beiden ESR24-Updates kritische Sicherheitslücken gestopft.
Die ESR31 Testversion ist mit dem Rechtsclick-Absturz-Bug kaum zum Testen geeignet. Wenn man Rocker-Gestures benutzt schon gar nicht.

Laut interner Nummer der XUL.dll sind wir bei Version 24.8.0.5362. Andere Dateien weisen das oder Ähnliches auch auf. Da sind scheinbar nicht alle Dateien, aber die Wesentlichen geupdated. platform.ini war wohl unwesentlich. :O

Ich glaube, dann weiß ich jetzt, warum der Browser mich in der letzten Zeit zweimal zum Updaten aufforderte. Ich konnte aber nichts finden.

Du müsstest mal bei FF in den Release Notes nachsehen, warum sie jetzt bei esr 24.8.1 sind, ehe du sowas Gemeines sagst. Die Erfahrung sagt mir, dass sie manchmal mit Problemen kämpfen, die uns nicht betreffen.

Da scheint was bei, das uns betreffen könnte: RSA Signature Forgery in NSS.

Also sollten wir uns 24.8.1 schnell mal kompilieren.

Leider weiss ich nicht, ob Dorian patchen mußte - und was. Seine Mozconfig wäre auch gut, gucke mal in about:buildconfig - was da ist, gönn mir ja sonst nichts. Sonst wäre das kein Problem die ganze GRE zu updaten.

Ich denke, ich bau mal auf gut Glück. Und wir nehmen alles was NSS im Namen hat für ein User-Driven-Update, sprach der DAU.

Man könnte auch einen original FF 24.8.1 nehmen und diese Dateien recykeln.

Könnte auch gehen und wäre bequemer. In zwei - drei Stunden wissen wir mehr.

So no even platform.ini shows the correct version, sigh.
There really should be one reliable place for it, and if possible hard-coded. In some defaut pref and also in readme-page.

Yogi: that right-click crash with g31 will be fixed in next version, Dorian already mentioned he just forgot some css, so guess that should be easy.

No. Not anymore. Only when it is made for the build. When files are updated and not the whole is replaced it will show an old version.

But the individual files properties show the GRE version. Maybe You can make a macro that read it from XUL.dll?

Ich baue aber gerade eine esr 24.8.1 und will gucken ob die Dateien zu unserem Release passen.

Nur wie tests ich die Funktion, wenn es zusammen läuft?

There is such a place. The libraries in the K-Meleon folder. At least those which have been updated Thanks Guenter for the hint.
Die ESR31 Testversion ist übrigens 31.1.0.5363.
