General discussion about K-Meleon
Importing Opera Bookmarks

Hello, im new in using K-meleon and its small memory footprint won me over.

I plan to use this browser on all my pc's but since i used opera before, im wondering if i will be able to import my bookmarks from that browser to K-meleon.

It will be hard to do it manually since it has hundreds upon hudreds of links which will really take too much time.

I tried using the search function here but i can't get any result relevant to my question.

I hope someone can guide me through this. Thank you K-meleon community.

Get and use Jetlinks. You can find it at Softpedia here:

Works like a charm.

Forum's own search does not work well.

Try http://www.google.com/search?q=site:kmeleon.sourceforge.net&q=

You can add this alternative to K-Meleon's Search engines.

http:/ /www.google.com/search?q=site:kmeleon.sourceforge.net&q=

There is a gap behind http:/. Delete before using the URL as search.

p.s. Opera Hotlist and IE Favorites are not imported but supported natively via a plugin. Activate and configure the hotlist plugin; or copy Opera adress list to K-Meleon profile; that takes care of Opera Hotlist. Details in FAQs.

I need help with Firefox bookmarks. If my information is correct bookmarks for
Firefox portable are contained in places.sqlite. But I cannot figure how to
use this. I do not find a regular bookmarks file in the program folder. When I
attempt to use this K-Meleon will not do so as it is not a bookmarks html.

Yes, & K-Meleon does not use sqlite format but he supports Netscape bookmarks format via his bookmarks plugin, and Firefox can export them to the bookmarks format.

Sorry, I can only translate from a German CometBird (a Firefox Variant) smiling smiley

Go to Firefox Bookmarks.
Go to Manage Bookmarks.
Go to Export Bookmarks.

It will offer to export as bookmarks.html. And that is what K-Meleon can use smiling smiley
Do export as bookmarks.html and copy the bookmarks.html file to K-Meleon profiles.

If You want to combine a K-Meleon and a Firefox bookmark file do via a bookmarks manager or have IE import the bookmarks file, write them as IE favorites and then import the favorites to the browser of Your choice.

Thank you Guenter. Since your reply I have found that this is weirder than
previously known. First I did not even understand why the portable Firefox
has a bookmarks file along with the places.sqlite when the bookmarks file
never changes no matter how many new bookmarks you add. Sorry about that
long sentence. So the Firefox bookmarks file is never updated.
But here is the new stuff discovered since the posting. My portable
SeaMonkey also has the places.sqlite file. Yet K-Meleon can use the portable
SeaMonkey bookmarks natively. K-Meleon can add to and remove bookmarks from
portable SeaMonkey.
So why can portable Firefox not do this?
I got both from http://portableapps.com/
I find very little of use regarding this problem as you can see here

Hi,

I guess both browsers have both files, but:

Firefox doesn't use it's bookmarks.html, and Seamonkey doesn't use its places.sqlite (- with the programs not running - start them after renaming).

You can try whether they are needed to be able to run the browsers: rename them to *.hxxl and *.sxxite respectively.

Note a file that is needed doesn't necessarily have to be used for eyeryday tasks of a program.

Cheers

I guess both browsers have both files, but:

Cometbird a non portable firefox variant also has the bookmarks.html file that it does not use to store updated bookmarks.

The live bookmarks and search of firefox need a databank.

My guess the bookmarks.html is used by to bookmaks bar.
