In April 2009, Yahoo announced that it will close down Geo Cit ies later that year. The site is no longer accepting new registrations.

themes again? al. if you ever read this, no one in the km community thinks of sticking their names on anyone else's work.. no one even cares who did what.. everything is done for the benefit of all kmeleon users and not for recognition.

And need download links to older or newer versions of

You can update with my unofficial updated to Gecko 1.8.1.21.
I don't know if k-meleon.exe work fine with KMLite, you can try it.

Yes it works. I successfully updated KMlite 1.1.2 to Gecko 1.8.1.21

NO problem with versions, version detector is only for my test purpose.
All versions do the same installatation but for next updates or K-Meleon Extensions the installation can be different for each version.

When you updated your KMLite (1.02 version guess) this show the selection for "1.0.x version or previous version". This is because your kmlite.exe is 1.0.2 version (based in K-Meleon 1.5.2) and the version detector thinks that this is k-meleon.exe 1.0.2 version.

If future updates require differents installations for each version you need to select the K-Meleon 1.5.x version for install the updated.

Desga2, I and others have now used your updater on many
installations of KMLite or Kronos, K-Meleon and K-Ninja.
Works great everytime. Sometimes I have used the new
version of K-Meleon to update K-Meleon. I find no
differences in using that method or your updater.
Is there a difference? I am afraid I do not understand
code.

You can read more about my Unofficial GRE update in this tutorial.

Files in my update are obtained from Seamonkey 1.1.16, if you use the files from new K-Meleon 1.5.3 the little differences are the next:

My update based in Seamonkey 1.1.16:
- Automatically delete *.dat files in \components folder.
- Delete embed_lite.dll file if this is present in \components folder from older K-Meleon version (this library isn't needed and cause problems in new versions)
- Files from Seamonkey are a little more bigger size.
- Files from Seamonkey are compiled with VC++ version 6.0.

Files from K-Meleon 1.5.3;
- Files are a slightly smaller size.
- Files are compiled with VC++ version 7.1.

In summary K-Meleon files can be a little more optimized than my updated based in Seamonkey files.
Both updates work fine as you have seen.

You have to find a compatible K-Meleon plugin - copy it into the right (kplugins) folder & it is auto-detected

I do not know from which K-Meleon version the *.exe was taken.
Else it is very simple.

You use the Favorites.dll of the corresponding K-Meleon version and copy it to ./Program Files/K-Ninja/kplugins/ folder. On the next start all K-Meleon variants
will discover a compatible plugin. And notify the user.

Bingo: A new plugin was found, do You want to use it yes/no? :O

p.s. You can also have hotlist.dll for Opera plugins - & all other K-Meleon plugins, no matter what Al had on his included list.

One would think it would work that way. I have tried on numerous
computers. The K-Ninja always crashes. Had wondered if Al had
messed up the chrome or something since he did not offer the
favorites in K-Ninja. If I understand correctly the problem may
be that I am using the Favorites.dll from an incorrect version?

I think that last K-Ninja versions are based in K-Meleon 1.1.x versions. KMLite is based in K-Meleon 1.5.x versions.

No - guenter does not re-build K-Ninja or any other version.

I stopped that long ago.

Maybe Al still used an unfixed version of the lite chrome?

AFAIK Al and K-Meleon Central are the only factions that used lite chromes in significant numbers of versions and installs. Plus we used it to surf more risky locations than a CD. We even spend time to fix it for that

But IMHO it is easier than that.

K-Meleons can use three chrome dll. One is like the Firefox 2 ones. Official K-Meleons use it, it uses manifests. One is like SeaMonkey 1.1.x ones, that needs content.rdf in chrome and needs installedchrome.txt. And chrmlite.dll with its light chrome. Each can be used for any k-meleon for 1.8 exe.

Take chrmlite.dll and xpt from an 1.8.x GRE based K-Meleon e.g. Al's handouts. And the latest, fixed lite Chrome. It was used by Fred's or Hao's issues. This lite chrome contains 2 fixes. 1 that prevents Java Applet crash, 2 about: plugins works. Do about:plugins & go on my applets page, if it does not crash... .

After that You should be free to combine modules from and with any 1.8. based K-Meleon exe. . I would take 1.5.3

Maybe I have time and can retrofit a K-Ninja skin. Is there any one You'd like?

p.s. I have the free tools (from MS Toolkit 2003, .Net SDK 1.1 ) plus free includes and libs ( even for atl, crt and mfc from Windows Server 2003 SDK R2)) to build complete GREs with VC 7.1 optimizing compiler but I do not have the tools to build K-Meleon.exe or any of its kplugins.

Even if I ever do a build - not the Ninja - that IMHO is a Ronin for me.

Because it was bad enough that kko and I were slandered for trying to save old skin builders' time. kko for giving web space and time to build a page and I for creating the skin updates and installers.

BTW. I still owe You many thanks for simplifiying alain's toolkit for a Dau like me.

work on this KmLite? It is mentioned at Re: Seamonkey 1.1.17 RC.
Will it work if I have or have not used your older updater
previously on my KmLite?

There is a problem with KMLite updates, Al never released/open/free K-ninja/KMLite source code, then we don't know if he changed something in K-Meleon sources. I can update only Gecko engine in KMLite but KMLite.exe will had all bugs legacy from K-Meleon 1.5.2 ever.
I can replace KMLite.exe by k-meleon.exe but then you are really using K-Meleon with K-Ninja/KMLite like skin.

I want incuded in new installer a previus installed version detector for better updates and an option to only update the Gecko engine.

Note that if Al not free KMLite source K-Ninja/KMLite will died with last Gecko 1.8.1.x version (K-Meleon 1.5.x) in next months because KMLite.exe not support Gecko 1.9.x (K-Meleon 1.6).

AL continued a custom to pass on Pre-Configured K-Meleons to end users.

It all started with themes that included more than a skin. Later pre-configured browsers, even new builds were used by Monkee-Sage, Sebastian, Dorian + 3 PPL as team. Next AL, Hao, Fred,several more even me did the same. All shared improvements. Its an open concept: You use what You like and can adapt.

You alone or as a team - take offical sources and the best tools and extensions available (look a alain's and disgusted's pages), build an installer (alain maintains it)and offer it to PPL that share Your browsing preferences (maybe ask disrupted for space or create a (co) project - Hao and disrupted did it already - at Source Forge).

You would get support here in this forum, IMHO, so consider to stay here (unlike AL). Join the anachic (some times merritocrat) but effective ways of K-Meleon the Great.

BTW. Once upon a time someone wrote something like: that he was prood to be the dwarf that was standing on the sholders of giants. Maybe that was right - he sure stood above mediocraty. So can You and any user that is willing to take up the responsibilty and tries to help - like Al (one of my favorite enemies did ).

wow..that's so old.. i think this version wasn't even called kninja..it had a different name but i can't remember it at all..it was something along the japanese warriors clan thing.. don't even know who made it. i might have it somewhere on a cd but i need to know it's real name cause i'm pretty sure that version wasn't called kninja.. do you know wot it's real name was?
