Anyone still using kmeleon?
Posted by: Dorian
Date: November 03, 2013 08:46PM

Hello,

It's been a while. How are you, for those who didn't defect yet ?
You can't say kmeleon is dead yet since it's still in the ballot screen. Which I think is really funny.

So I was bored and guess what, I've updated kmeleon to work with the latest mozilla release (25). You can download K-Meleon 74. ANd you will need the XRE, either from FF or from here

If someone could make it a bit more usable by tweaking chrome and macros, this would be nice. As you can see I've just used firefox xulrunner. I'm not sure how much usable it can be, probably not much, but looks like it works. I'm posting this message with it.

A few are still using it smiling smiley

Thanks for this smiling smiley

I have found a problem with preferences window and error console window that don't open. Just shows an "about:blank" window :-?

Oh, and that it is in French tongue sticking out smiley ;-)

This was tested in a virtual machine with XP SP2, didn't test much beyond. Just a few pages opened here and there.

But, beyond this, sadly, for me it's not useful, but it's entirely a problem up to me as a Windows 2000 user yet (and with a few more years yet), because of the VC++10 of GRE and other dependencies, as with Firefox or Seamonkey.

Anyway, thanks for this and for your time Dorian. Glad to see you around here smiling smiley

This is a totally new K Meleon, some things do not work but every page opens as expected. How to solve this with the French?

Thanks Dorian

It seems like all the inner locale (being previously in embed.jar) is now compiled into main exe-file.

So it's unchangeable without recompile as replacing of xul.dll and omni.ja with localized ones from FF25 don't work...

Yes.

& I made this post sticky.

p.s. I do use it for research. The search engine possibilities are hard to top..

K-Meleon project will need someone that knows to build the new security requirements into the K-Meleon part of the Chrome.

The Mozilla scavanged parts of chrome can go without change if needed.

Phantastic indeed - runs like a train but with me (Windows XP) url bar doesn't work at all and there is no keyword typeheadfinder.

Could that be remedied?

Thx a lot

Does anyone know how to block pop-up java windows in this version?
Before I used the K-Meleon-1.7db + and this version is perfectly worked with pop-up.
How to do the same in this version 74?

Once again me - have been using kmeleon 74 of Dorian all afternoon - works fine on most of the websites I had problems with so far - the only thing that desturbs me is : that whenever I type something in the url bar the return goes to about:blank - unless if it is the name of a domain.

Every suggestion here would be must appreciated.

Thx a lot and again congratulations Dorian with the innovative work !!

Mala Okeh,
have you installed MS libraries I've pointed you to?

2all
I don't know about java but I do know now about localization.

Look:

1) if you haven't run new KM ever - run it to create new profile and then close. If you already run it - just close.

2) download your localized FF25 from FTP

3) unpack an installer (I used Total Commander to get into but you probably may need rename .exe to .zip first)

4) inside archived installer find core\omni.ja file

5) copy this file (omni.ja) and place into your K-meleon root and your current profile folders. Overwrite existing files in there.

6) Run KM and enjoy your locale. The menu will remain English but all internal messages will be localized to your language. And 'smart' sites would define you lang right!

The localisation went all right - I installed the MS libraries but nothing changed to the behavior of the url bar. Has someone the same problems?

Thx for the omni.ja hint.

I think that a number of problems could be due to KM being compiled on 64bit machine.

Dorian, please couldn't you recompile the same on 32bit one?

First to Dorian - THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

@ rodocop - thank you for localization method. It works like a charm.

Note for users requiring IE FAVORITES support. The favorites.dll file must be copied from an older KM into the kplugins folder of KM 74. The following line is to be added to prefs.js.
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.favorites.load", true);

Usability note: My bank has no trouble with the default user agent for 74. Speed and display are awesome.

I have a quick and dirty fix for history. It is not fancy and you need to do your own maintenance for how much to history to keep. All this does right now is give you a record. For now the "View history" is under the Tools menu.

not working 4me, James. Sorry.

Maybe not compatible with Win7?

txt-file is being filled with records but exe-file won't load not from KM neither directly from folder...

Says: Autoit error
Quote

Line 6 (File "D:\K-Meleon74\tools\History4me.exe"):
Error: Array variable has incorrect number of subscripts or subscript dimension range exceeded.

First chrome repair (Solve about problem):

The modification :

1-Add "locale branding fr fr/locale/fr/branding/" to chrome.manifest in omni.ja\chrome .

2-Add 'branding' folder (from firefox) to omni.ja\chrome\fr\locale\fr .

It's still in the Firefox way & french , need New design .

test:

about:
about:about
about:cache
about:memory
about:compartments
about:buildconfig
about:addons (FF)

If the history4me.txt file is getting filled, then the system is working. History4me.exe is called each time the onload event runs. It writes the datetime plus URL to the txt file. The menu item in Tools is just to call notepad to look at the txt file. This was built under Win7(32 bit).

Do you have records in history4me.txt? I understood that you did have them. You cannot run history4me.exe except from the macro.

Perhaps I have not correctly understood your post.

Several problems can be fixed if you change the file name macros2.dll to macros.dll in the kplugins folder.

The Second chrome repair (Solve Preferences & Console problem):

Notes:

1-To run Console Tools> Error Console .

2- The Zoom is default to 30% Go to Preferences>page display>default zoom & set it to 100% .

Edit:

Good thinking JamesD , Now All my macros Work .

====>> Regarding the history4me system previously posted

If you change the filename of macros2.dll to macros.dll in kplugins then you can add these lines to toolbars.cfg.

	%ifplugin macros
        # alt history
	history4me{
	macros(_History4me_View)
	View history4me.txt file
	toolhot.bmp[12]
	toolcold.bmp[12]
	tooldead.bmp[12]
	}
	%endif

I am using the Klassic skin and I think the bmp position you need in AuraAlpha(Large) is 6 instead of 12.

naruman's work is great
but it would be slightly more correct to do that way:

1) add your locale from your localized omni.ja taken from FF25 setup into omni.ja provided by naruman

2) add needed parts from your old KM locale inside your new locale folder not fr (unless you use French).

3) Take chrome.manifest from your FF localization and insert it inside edited omni.ja.

4) Edit this manifest adding lines that naruman added:
content console2 toolkit/content/console2/
locale console2 fr fr/locale/fr/console2/
skin	console2	classic/1.0 toolkit/skin/classic/console2/
overlay	chrome://browser/content/browser.xul	chrome://console2/content/overlay.xul
override chrome://global/content/bindings/richlistbox.xml	chrome://console2/content/global/richlistbox.xml
content kmprefs toolkit/content/kmprefs/ contentaccessible=yes
skin kmprefs classic/1.0 toolkit/skin/classic/kmprefs/
locale kmprefs fr fr/locale/fr/kmprefs/
locale branding fr fr/locale/fr/branding/
but change all 'fr' instances with your locale code!!!

Some time later I'll provide english and russian ready omni.ja file.

@ naruman

This is what I am getting with my Avira anti-virus.

Begin scan in 'C:\Users\Jim\Downloads\omni.ja'
C:\Users\Jim\Downloads\omni.ja
[DETECTION] Contains virus patterns of Adware ADWARE/InstallRex.Gen

Beginning disinfection:
C:\Users\Jim\Downloads\omni.ja
[DETECTION] Contains virus patterns of Adware ADWARE/InstallRex.Gen
[NOTE] The file was moved to the quarantine directory under the name '5628eb93.qua'!

End of the scan: Tuesday, November 05, 2013 14:41

Any idea what I can do to use omni.ja file?

Edit:

Forget it. All my own problem. I clicked on the wrong download button, and I was getting their download program. I have the file now.

Thanks

Edit again:

How to I get back to English from French?
