I have uploaded a new unofficial version KM-16-F3628 ,
based on the updated Firefox 3.6.28 , Gecko 1.9.2.28 , date 20120306 .
Further updates for Firefox 3.6 should be available until
April, as many business customers will want to continue using
the older Firefox versions.
Note : This version needs the 80's runtimes. Download MSvce8dist.exe from
http://jujuland.pagesperso-orange.fr and install it.
As kplugins from K-Meleon 1.5 are being used, you will also need
the files msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you need these files, look for them in the internet.
The profile will be created inside the K-Meleon folder.
If in Linux you want it inside the ".wine" folder, because of
user rights problems, rename the file profile.ini to
profile.ini-renamed before the first start.
3.6 is end of life, continued use will only expose you to security vulnerabilities. Everyone should moved to the much, much faster Firefox 11.0 with far better HTML5 support.

Ex-User,
Yup, we need a C++ developer to code a new K-Meleon using the Gecko 2.xxx engine used in Fx 11. Interested or got a friend? Or just get used to Fx XUL XPI extensions that "may" suit your needs instead of KKO's flexible and often personalized macros.
FWIW, I use Fx 11 on a right click in K-Meleon, for those days when you must use something else.
For sure, Comodo Dragon much more better alternative than firefox 11..
Yes, this is my favorite alternative. But - like all Chromiums - it's real memory hog: with about 15 tabs Dragon had fully taken all my 1Gb.
Even 2Gb cannot be safe from overload if you like to have dozens of tabs opened and use chrome extensions as every tab and every extension eats 25-30Mb of RAM.

How to upgrade from a K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta2 install to this version without losing settings?
Fred adds a profile.ini by default so his versions always create a new profile inside the install directory. They do not destroy anything.
K-Meleons since 1.5.x use a compatible profile system. So they would not damage each others profiles. If You want You can use the profile of K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta2.
Two was to transfer settings:
1.) If You have Your 1.6 profile at Your system's default location You can remove the profile.ini of Fred's version. On the next start it will use the data of 1.6beta2.
Maybe backup the data.
BTW. Since 1.6 and this one's profiles and most data formats are compatible with 1.5.4 profiles - You only have to make sure that all versions have the same skins. The skins are also compatible so they can be copied around from one version to the other.
Only some history and cookies data are stored in a different data format.
So the versions do not update the other data but do not destroy them either.
2.) Another way to transplant settings is to transfer/copy the files inside the used profile folder of 1.6 to the profile folder of the KM-16-F3628.

what I really like about fred's KM16-F3628 release or any older KM16-F36xx releases is that they do not crash on my Vista/Win7 machines when I close KM properly (woo!)
unlike KM 1.6 beta 2 and fred's KM16-F35xx/KM16-SM20xx releases I've used in the past where they do crash on exit when running them on Vista/Win7.

This version cannot remember password and login. There is not the famous file [number].s in the Profiles[number].default. If one clears cache and cookies the navigator is requiring again the entrance parameters. I try it; when you give for the first time, on a page, the specific password it creates a folder with a specific number with almost the files exepted the .s one.
I have also been trying out Fred's new unofficial version, and I like it, except for one thing: when cookies and cache are cleared the central toolbar disappears, and some dropdown menus in the top one are minimized. I was thinking of using KM-16-F3628+ as my backup browser, but here is an annoying bug.

This is a general bug of 1.7 KM core which this build is based on. Not Fred's bug.
Can be corrected? Because changing for a new version with a loss of all password is crazy. I use since a long time Kmeleon and always copy and paste the encrypted content of the .s file. By this way I find again all my logins and password in a new version. In my opinion a navigator having this problem has no chance of success.

I'm working on next CommMeleon - user friendly custom build, which includes all the best what KM can give. Check the forum!
Rodocop, my AVG 2012 antivirus finds two instances of Win32/Heur virus in your *.rar download file (which I haven't unpacked yet). Is this a false positive or is the program not safe to use?
Friendly regards, Kleon

Trying out various subspecies of the lizard
kleon,
these are definitely falses - AVG is known to get reinsured ('Win32/Heur' means that detection is made by AVG heuristics - and no heuristic mechanism now isn't pretty faultless). I think, this is reaction on UPX-packer for exe-files, used by dugbug.
The next CommMeleon will be based on the new db-builds, not using UPX.
Anyway, it's absolutely safe now - and tested by many of folks here...
I'll take your word for it, Rodocop. I think I will wait for your next version, though, before I try out CommMeleon.
BTW: The bug in KM-16-F3628, which I described earlier in the thread: I fixed it by unchecking 'Bookmarks' toolbar and then locking all toolbars. Now the toolbars all stay in place.

Noticed that,
"ClearCookies" through "Clear All"-menu don't work.
"ClearCookies" through "Clear All"-menu don't work.
km2,
Me too, my solution has been to use CookieCuller instead to handle cookies. BTW, have you noticed that sometimes that history doesn't clear, either from the PrivacyBar icon or from the menu?
I copied this from an old post. Beta 2.5 only has change relating to placement of code for spellcheck. Went back to using a macro.
Beta 2.4
1) Re-compiled privacy.dll file has function 'ClearHistory' working
from all menu locations. No change to C++ code was needed. Guenter
did a new compile.
2) Spell checking is better integrated in the accelerators and menus.
No longer need spelltest.kmm file. We have the source code and that
code says it is in the public domain.
Beta 2.3
1) Includes spell checking and word suggestions
2) Revised troubleshooting for spelling and bug fixes
3) Add option for BuildID use and to use some Javascript items
with capability policy preferences. Items like “Send page as
a link” will now work if the default capability policy for
Javascript is “NoAccess”. Pages in a policy list which
denies Javascript still will not work.
