New Tabs

First I was going to post this in an old thread that pertains to this but
could not locate it. If someone finds it please move this to it.
I have the problem mentioned by others where if you click on an Internet
Explorer Favorite that is located anywhere other than the Favorites list
it will always open a new window.
This also happens when opening an Internet Explorer Favorite using
any method other than simply clicking into Favorites at the top of
K-Meleon and then clicking the particular Favorite listing.
Now after much experimenting I have discovered that Internet Spirit
does not have this problem. I absolutely do not want to use Internet Spirit.
So how can Internet Spirit manage to always open everything in a new tab
by default?
Not only does it manage to do that but if I transfer the preferences
file from it to K-Meleon then K-Meleon will also perform that way.
But I do not want to do that either.
Surely someone can find where the settings are different so as to achieve
this with K-Meleon!?

Please help. Thanks.

You ought to download Internet Spirit from cnet shit site but we don't want ...
The solution used by Hardy the robber is written in C or C++, and as he doesn't make the source avalaible, it's not possible to know how he does.
Sorry ...

follow the snapshot for both links passed from external and links opened in new location, check kmext.sf.net for a macro that opens internal km windows into tabs

Thanks for the information, disrupted. Oddly enough changing those settings
does not have any effect. The Favorites still open in a new window. I did
close KM and restart after changing the settings. And to me this is still
odder. The settings in the Internet Spirit browser that do work are the
same as in your picture except that under "Popup Window Diversion"
it is set at the bottom setting.
These same settings do "not" work in K-Meleon.
That's why I asked for anyone to download a copy of the other browser to
see what's going on.
I can install Internet Spirit as a portable and right out of the box it
behaves the way I am trying to get KM too.

Did you also close the loader before restarting?
Did you check the settings in Favorites/Options?
Did you check F2 / Browsing / Open / Internet Explorer Favorites?
Do you really mean IE Favorites, or perhaps "Bookmarks"?
Last, you can take a look in about:config page and filter for "favorites", then compare settings with the settings in the clone.

Just copy the prefs.js of the profile of Your Hardy Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080702 Firefox/2.0.0.16 based theftware to You K-Meleon profile, That will graft all the settings.

I tried the method mentioned by confused and the new window called by clicking on a link in my favorites folder opened in a new window. I had made changes in preferences to open new windows in new tabs. Clicking that way is supposed to open the same KM again, but it does not follow the preference.

Edit:
I did a KM restart after fixing the preferences and before the test.

Just double-checked which pref is responsible for opening favorites that are clicked in a file explorer window. It's definitely the one from disrupteds screenshot ("URLs passed from external applications"), and on my machine it works instantly, no restart needed.

Hardy's theftware sets pref "browser.link.open_external" to 3 instead of 2 (e.g. via about:config or pref panel).

That's all the difference IMHO.

You are correct.

@ Siria. I do not use the loader. In Favorites/Options I have that to open in
a new tab. On F2 / Browsing / Browsing Options / General / Internet Explorer Favorites I have it set to open Internet Explorer Favorites in a new tab.
Yes, I do mean the Internet Explorer Favorites. Not Bookmarks. I am really
wondering about this machine as I have numerous KM portable builds on it
and only one that is not portable. This is because I never remove the old
ones. So there are many 1.5's, 1.6's and some 1.7's. Also everyone who uses
this computer wants a different KM rather than a different profile.
Now the odd thing about that is that this problem occurs in all of the browsers.
So for example if there's a shortcut to an Internet Explorer Favorite
on my desktop or on my external hard drive it will always open in a new window.

@ 2 Confused. I did not permanently copy the prefs.js of the profile of the
Hardy browser to my KM's because I want to keep all the settings I already
have.

Also @ 2 Confused. Since normal settings do not work for me how do I change my
settings that you mention?

Yep, and make sure that value is "3".

Same result also by clicking on
Edit > Preferences (F2) > Browsing
> Window diversion (right side, see disrupted's first screenshot)
> click little arrow next to "Links meant to open a new window"
> "click URLs passed from external applications"
> check "new tab"

That is exactly the same as in the first screenshot explained already, just in words and much more complicated looking ;-)
