Hi,

Seems that integrated default URL for MAMMA :

http://www.mamma.com/Mamma?query=

don't work !

Type - 404 Error Page - http://www.mamma.com/404_page_not_found.php

Anybody with a suitable one ?

TIA

Some shortcuts work when typed in KM address bar but not when integrated in KM.

I don't know about the 'Metasearch' part but this works for web searches.

I have already tried that, obtained by tweaking the default Mamma search string to obtain the "q=" at end !
As said before, this works when tiped in address bar but not when integrated in KM search engines (Tools > Web search > Configure > Search engines)... sad smiley

Have recently struggled quite a bit too when trying to add another engine, although the string was correct, and that was slightly confusing. Suddenly it worked, after a few browser restarts and lots of playing with the settings...
One of the things I learned, is that hotlist nicks (and probably bookmark nicks) need a "%s" at the place of the search string, and the engines in the "finding websites" list do not. But obviously that's not your prob here. Oh well, triple-check the settings and restart in between...
By the way, you can also check in about:config for search engines, perhaps that was the key for me??

@ melo

Did you include type= in your string?

This my adjusted URL for Mamma:

I called it from Tools > Web Search and it worked for me.

With help of all friends here, problem is solved !

Using the string of Matt and JamesD :

http://www.mamma.com/result.php?type=web&q=

I took siria advice to directly tweak "about:config" where I found two "mamma" values for "search" :

kmeleon.general.searchEngine
kmeleon.plugins.macros.search.meta4.url

I changed both to string and now all works just fine !

Thanks to all !

This simpler string from ndebord works also just fine !

Changes in (Tools > Web search > Configure > Search engines) have no effect at all, they modify search.xml with no result ! :O
Only changes in prefs.js lead to good result...

I beg to differ. See my post of the 18th. I never used configuration to make my change.

melo,

Hmmm... you must have something wrong somewhere in your setup because I just make changes in Tools/Web Search. Never had to make the change in about config.

So I would say, you have employed a kludge to make it work, but you should not have had to jump through hoops to make Mamma work properly.

I definitely had trouble too, but that was on my personal profile with quite some 'inherited' stuff from older versions (which may cause probs), and didn't examine further. And it was on 1.6beta. Am surprised now that this happens on old versions too, hmm...
Uhm Melo, which windows version do you happen to use??

Basically, I work with KM 1.1.6...

Same problem is happening with KM 1.5.3 PORTABLE :

You can put anything in (Tools > Web search > Configure > Search engines) for MAMMA : 404 Not Found if the right string is not in about:config (prefs.js).

In KM 1.1.6 & 1.5.3 Portable, MAMMA only works with right string(s) in about:config.

I just started up my old computer which has KM 1.1.6 on it. I add mamma to my list and saw it had the old string. I went to search engines and edited the string. That did not change mamma's string in my list. I removed mamma and put it back in my list. After that I had to restart KM, but the new string worked. Most important that you restart KM after changing the string.

Thanks !

Each time a string failed, I have restarted the proggy...

Never this restart of KM have changed things, if the tweak works, it always works without restarting !

Regards.
