F2 -> Browsing Options.

The choice field: Open... blah blah must be opened and the Your value set several times.

Been there already Guenter...

I would not have bothered you guys otherwise ..

My settings are the same...F2--->Browsing--->Browsing OPtions--->General--->
Open--->Typed Urls

and Below

In a new Tab

And .F2--->Browsing--->Browsing OPtions--->Window Diversion--->
OPen--->Links meant to be open in a new window

and Below

In a new Tab

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can post screen shots and all that...

K-meleon has always been a bit awkward when it comes to set up the tabbed browsing..

Either does like the old Internet explorer opening everything in a new window making you have lots of open k-meleons OR it opens everything in the same tab forcing you to hit countless of time the back button...
trying to force k-meleon to lose the above habits seems a lost battle..

If you ask me ..this is a bug which needs to be fixed..It`s been around for ages..

Regards..

Sorry but I can't confirm that at all. If my prefs are set to open stuff in a new tab, the do open new tabs. In old and new KM versions. If it doesn't for you, it must be something you changed yourself, perhaps installed a macro with such a side-effect or something.

Aside from the stuff that can be set in prefs, and which is usually enough for most users, there are some additional things that can be changed to open in new tab, like about plugins or such. In KM1.6 desga has added more pref options in the "windows diversion" section, but if you're really extreme to open everything always in tabs, try jsnj's macro. It's in the macro library and in the forum here, and would assume also in the kmext archive.

Right...

In this case i must be the only one..
I am not a beginer with K-meleon..I have not modded/installed/added/deleted to it or from it ..

I set the K-meleon trough gui to open in a new tab and it does not open it.. It`s always been like that...
It`s that simple..

Guenter has been helpul but for some reason it does not work

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that K-meleon is running on a japanese computer(My Gf`s)

I am not really extreme to open everything in a new tab..I just want a normal browser behaviour.. Click on alink meant to open a new window...there you go... opened in a new tab..

It really sucks having to hit the back button zillions of times or to have on a low memory computer k-meleon opening zillions of instances again..

THat`s all there is to it..

Again... the GUI does not work

you're looking for window diversion:

if kmeleon's behaviour isn't changed then it's a profile folder user/rights preventing writing to prefs but not a gui problem

remember if you're using the loader, you'll have to close it and restart kmeleon for changes to be saved

all Right...

Same problem

Tried both of the settings showed there in the screen shot and the K-meleon keeps on opening the tabs in the same windows

Well, if it were such a general bug as you keep insisting, then how do you explain that it works fine for everyone else?? How could that work for others, if it simply doesn't work in general, as you insist? A miracle?? :cool:

The problem obviously only happens on a single computer, not others, so it may a be bug on asian machines only, but if you say you don't believe that... Have you checked with a clean brandnew 7z-version, without anything inherited from your older versions? Perhaps some remnants from that long-since obsolete layer workaround or something? Perhaps some global windows tool on your machine? Unless of course you don't have writing rights in your profile folder, but ayssuming you verified that long since.

I was not able to verify/re-create Your problem in 1.5.4 nor in the current the "Latest Development Release".

I recommend that You create a new profile and if needed a new profile from a new install. That new install must be in a new, non default, install location. This procedure prevents interference from past installs profiles and extensions. This can test whether the problem is system or version specific. After that You can gradually add Your modification and extensions. I have read no reports about generally used extensions that can cause the error that You have described.

Can you please explain your problem a little bit more Gorilla? I mean, do you want to left-click a link to open a new tab?

Better first check why Your current version (1.5?/1.6?) does not behave like ours.

Enough privileges ...

Do You have a new PC or OS or why do You set up again?

BTW. You can reuse K-Meleon 1.5 profiles with all 1.5 and 1.6 currently.

I have some of the same complaints but it is links opened from macros that do not divert properly. like Help: About plugins, from the menu, always opens a *f$%#@* new window. It is annoying. I think that 1.6 if anything might have a few more instances where this happens, or maybe i'm so annoyed that it's not fixed by now, it just seems like more. Older versions did not have this behaviour iirc...

I think the options for diversion are too complicated, i vote for either divert everything or divert nothing. we have nice commands for detaching windows if needed. and those who want really exotic default diversion behavior can always use the prefs.

@gnb
i understand ur handle nowsmiling smiley, btw siria's not your mate, she's a she(la).

In 1.6.0 Beta and Beta2 you can change this behaviour in Preferences (F2) -> Browsing -> Windows Diversion (tab) -> "Open Help menu options in a new tab instead of a new window" option.

Yup thanks, downloaded it a few days ago and noticed that. There are still other menu entries that open a window though. Is anyone still interested in bug reports for this beta? I've had trouble with it that wasn't there for the preBeta I had previously, but I imagine they;'ve all been reported by others....

I might have found something. In the menu system, some items which open panels for plugin, about KM, etc. need to check a pref to decide where to open their command ID.

# ----- Help menu options open in new tab if tabs are enabled and the preference is true -----
$pref_helpmenu="kmeleon.plugins.macros.helpmenu.openintab";

hm_Aplugins {
macroinfo=_("View information on installed third party plugins");
if (getpref(BOOL, $pref_helpmenu)) { $OpenURL="about:plugins"; &OpenURL_InNew; } else { id(ID_LINK_ABOUT_PLUGINS); }
}

hm_Akm {
macroinfo=_("Display program information, version number and copyright");
if (getpref(BOOL, $pref_helpmenu)) { $OpenURL="about:"; &OpenURL_InNew; } else { id(ID_APP_ABOUT); }
}

I don't seem to have that pref in my prefs.js file. I have not found where I am to set that pref. Possibly not having a true value for the pref is the culprit. Is there an item in preferences that I have overlooked?

Edit:

That is the case. I added this code to my code testing macro and ran the macro. Help menu item 'About Plugins' presented in a new tab.

_Snippet_RunCode {
setpref(BOOL, "kmeleon.plugins.macros.helpmenu.openintab", true);
}
