Right... it`s been a while since i have not posted...
I have been busy...

I just finished some work and now i went back on working on K-meleon..
If you ask me K-meleon is a great browser except for the fact that when it comes istalled out of the box you have to manipulate the tool bars until you find the right position for you..

I like to have as much reading/viewing space as possibile and therefore I always had to fiddle with the k-melon until i find the right position of the toold bars .. a setup that will provide me with as much reading space as possibile...
Here is a screen shot of the latest k-meleon running on my GF`s laptop.As you can see compared with the other browsers outthere and even with the original K-meleon the viewing space is a lot improved..


Compared with the classic version which more or less they look this way..



So because i keep my K-melon installer on a usb and i always take it with me i was always a bit discontent.. every time i would install it on my friend`s computers i had to fiddle with the settings in about:config , C:\Program Files\K-meleon\defaults\settings\menus.cfg and
C:\Program Files\K-meleon\defaults\pref\skin.js and so on in order to make it look and act the same...

So i decided to modify the settings in the said folders and create an other installer that next time when i install the k-meleon on a other computer will install it with all the settings i like...

Here`s how i did it..


From the C:\Program Files\K-meleon\defaults\settings\menus.cfg i deleted the Help and the Sessions buttons so i can have more room on my tool bar

i updated the files with the settings i taken from the C:\Program Files\K-meleon\Profiles\funnyname.default\prefs.js

as a result now everytime i install the k-melon it gets installed with my prefered setup..

This is what I've done with Early Blue and KM 1.5.4. No changing of defaults, but choosing what goes into the main toolbar and the secondary toolbar.

P.S. My eyes are old, so did not want to shrink sizes at all! <VBG>

Well, everyone has their own preferencess for toolbar configuration, and guess I'm the other extreme - I'd be lost without a bunch of *additional* buttons



Personally I wouldn't want to change the default settings, for debugging reasons. But of course that's the nice thing about KM, if someone knows what he's doing he can tweak everything
In general I prefer portable versions too, with profiles in the same folder as the program itself. So when using a new KM version, I just copy over the files from one profile folder into another. And mostly use multiple profiles, to switch between default configuration and my own and perhaps different skins or such.

Anyway, what makes me wonder a bit, why don't you also hide the "Bookmarks" entry? The icon alone can do everything what the menu does too. Since I'm using all 3 systems (favorites, bookmarks, hotlist) that saves a LOT of space ;-)

Guess I am somewhere in between. I need 24 pixel size buttons for eye-comfort.
I saved space by using a Prefs(with Compact Menu) button instead of text menus.
Have custom button for favorites and hotlist. Background by siria.

Tweaking is what it is all about in KM, no? <VBG>

You'll notice that I do not use Sessions at all, preferring Groups(2) and I took Disrupted's (???) suggestion and got rid of the AdBlock icon and just go with it in Edit Preferences (and the Easy List of course!). The little weather icon is his also and gives me weather on an icon (in addition to the normal weather dropdown in Tools.. T-Mobile blocks (normal) USEnet, so I use the News icon for nPOPuk, to pull email headers.
