First of all, I want to start telling u that I searched this answer in this forum and I can´t find anything about it.-

I lost my passwords when I changed K-meleon 1.54 and substitute it by K-meleon 1.6.0.2.

What file must I restore to continue using my old passwords for web pages, that is, What file must I recover from my k-meleon 1.54 to make k-meleon 1.6.0.2 use them.

How I transferred my passwords from 1.5.4 to the latest 1.6.b4. version by desga2 that tests the pref panel.

The source passwords file was in 1.5.4 profile.
My K-Meleon's name for it was "32933458.s" (random number.s).

For 1.6.b4 version I created a login. I logged into this forum.
Now this created a file called "signons.txt".
The file was in my 1.6.b4's profile.

Next I went with an editor into 1.5.4's "32933458.s".
Marked All content & Copied it all.

Then I opened 1.6.b4's signons.txt with the editor.
Marked All content & pasted all 1.5.4's passwords/content into it.

Then I saved the file and started K-Meleon 1.6.

Then I open Prefs Panel Privacy and checked whether they showed

Hope You have the same versions and it works for You also.

Sounds like one can simply copy "123456.s" into the
new profile folder and rename it to signons.txt?

And afterwards check in
Edit > Configuration (F2) > Privacy & Security

Jap my guess too, that sounds easier than my method anyway.

p.s. I had it in clipboard because I wanted to compare strings pattern to look what can be done.

Guenter, my K-Meleon1.6 preBeta by Desga has the signons.txt
However I have made some copies of it giving those other names. I did some modifications but do not remember what. They all have the old s file. And they will not create a signons.txt file even when I delete the s file. Yet by using passwords from the old s file they work fine. What did I do? Will they be okay?

I used the same Profile with 1.5.4 and 1.6.0 from the first time I started the latter. That included the prefs.js.
Though I DID make some changes to the profile, and haven't used it from 1.5.4 for quite a while, 1.6.0 has been using the abcdefg.s file from the start. Probably because the line

signon.SignonFileName

had kept its value of abcdefg.s. Havent tried to save a new password since, though. maybe i should try some time soon, and see if it is saved, and if the signons.txt file is created then - I do not have one yet.

It is nice to know that this is happening to someone else.
I have tried to add passwords to my K-Meleon 1.6 builds that have the wrong file
and they do work fine at saving the passwords. So as long as they work fine it
is no problem.
Not knowing anything about code, can you tell me what signon.SignonFileName means?

Frankly there are also 'stormy' days here occasionally, but mostly it's nice and sunny ;-)

@Bart, You might have madw experiment with signon in prefs?

I shniffed arround a bit. Nosy me

In 1.6 ./K-Meleon/greprefs/all.js

The are these three new lines of code containing signon:

pref("signon.SignonFileName",               "signons.txt"); // obsolete 
pref("signon.SignonFileName2",              "signons2.txt"); // obsolete
pref("signon.SignonFileName3",              "signons3.txt"); // obsolete

If You delete them, K-Meleon 1.6 will create new password files after the old K-Meleon1.5... default pattern. He He. At least my guinea pig did.
