Bookmarks + 'Nicks'

I use K-meleon for my day to day usage and find the 'Nick' feature for bookmarks incredibly usefull.

I would really like to see some bookmarks with usefull nicknames already in the bookmark file when K-Meleon is installed, it would make it so much more functional from the outset. I propose a minim list of those provided in mozilla Firbird, but think nicking the list that Konqueror has when you install KDE3.1 would be even better

I would also like to see the following user_prefs in by default because they add tremendous functionality that is inaccesible to beginner and basic users
user_pref("keyword.enabled", true);
user_pref("keyword.URL","http://www.google.com/search?&btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q="winking smiley;

My proposed minimum list:
* Google Quicksearch | http://www.google.com/search?&q=%s | nick google
* I'm Feeling Lucky Quicksearch | http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky |nick goto
* Dictionary.com Quicksearch | http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=%s |
nick dict
* Stock Symbol Quicksearch http://www.google.com/search?&q=stocks:%s |stock

Dunno if the FB team will be annoyed with the robbing of their bookmarks?

I have also written info about how to use the function in Mozilla that could easily be adapted for K-Meleon if it would be usefull in some documentation somewhere

Hi Who!

Sounds like an interesting proposal and would be good for the new beginner to have something upon install, especially if they were confused about the "favourites/hotlist/bookmark" question upon installation, right? smiling smiley As for myself though I have a great bookmark file so whenever I update my Firebird (usually only at milestones now, or major changes) I just drop my bookmarks into my profile. And when I upgrade/install a new version of KM I link it to my main profile of Mozilla that I use from time-to-time.

As to the rest? I don't know if I have any feeling either way. Well, the enabling of keywords would be nice come to think of it, wouldn't it? For myself, I removed my search icon from the iconbar because I've added others there which I consider more important, kept the default search in the drop-down menu, then added a search toolbar that searches Google from the URL bar---then my second search searches Dogpile from the URL bar without the toolbar search (which I think is meant by "keywords", yes?).

As to stocks? I don't play the market. winking smiley LOL! But of course, others do.

So yes, interesting proposal that over-all doesn't increase the size of the browser and improves it nicely! Nice input! smiling smiley

Hi

Thanks for the idea about the profiles
What do you mean by the enabling of keywords? I have been using the 'nick' option as a direct equivalent to Mozillas keywords function -I assume thats not what you mean.....
can you clarify what you mean by the default search in the dropdown menu - I don't think I've found that yet...

as to the content: is it sensible to create a thread for ideas/keywords, or a wiki page that could be stuck into a textfile before compilation of major releases?

do we want some kind of regulation on what is there?

Ahhh...sorry..don't I fell stupid
The keyword think.....the user pref.....
The greatest thing about this is it goes beyond just searching....try typing:
25kg in lbs
with th euser prefs as below:
user_pref("keyword.enabled", true);
user_pref("keyword.URL","http://www.google.com/search?&btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q="winking smiley;

Cool eh..!
it works for simple arithmatec aswell : 65 * 1005

The thing is it isn't the same as a searh - it makes the addressbar more 'intelligent' because of the "btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky" bit. I barely ever type urls anymore...to get her I just type: kmeleon forums

I actually feel this should be a higher priority than a bookmark list
